One of the nicest messages I’ve received since launching the Agility Workbook:

“I’ve already set up eight of the layouts. I’m really enjoying the different skills and challenges but what’s most appealing is they are so quick and easy to set up. You really can open it on any page and be outside training in a matter of minutes. You need to write another!”

Comments like this make all the work worthwhile.

When I started putting the workbook together, the goal was simple: create practical training sessions that people could set up quickly and actually use in the real world.

No complicated course builds.
No spending half an hour measuring distances.
Just open a page, set it up, and get training.

It’s been fantastic to see so many people already out there using the exercises and putting their own spin on them.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the workbook so far. 🙏

✨ Star - 10.5 years young!

2 runs on Sunday, 2 clean runs 💯

Here’s one of the runs from the Olympia Qualifier 🔥

Still loving every second of it ❤️

🔥 Friday Training Challenge 🔥

Here’s a little workbook-style sequence to try this weekend 🐾

This one is actually a slightly more flowing drill, making it a great option for younger dogs or dogs developing confidence (hmmm… maybe a Young Dog Workbook needs to happen 😉😂).

But don’t be fooled by the flow, there are still some really important skills hidden inside.

Key training points:

➡️ The big question comes at #12…
Can your dog understand the difference between a threadle wrap / backside slice and avoid the weaves?

The weaves often become a very high value obstacle, so these discrimination moments are a great test of true understanding.

➡️ Around #6 #7 #8 you have options:

Can you create a smooth line with a front cross?

Or can you trust the dog’s understanding and use a rear cross, asking them to turn away from you while maintaining commitment?

Small details. Big difference. 💪

This is exactly the style behind the Agility Workbook. Simple setups, but with layers of skills and challenges hidden inside.

Happy training 🔥🐾

“I thought I had enough verbals… until I realised I didn’t.”
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Really nice message from a new One Jump at a Time reader in Canada 🇨🇦

One of the biggest things I hear is:
“I thought I already had enough cues.”

Then as sequences become more technical, people start realising they’re relying more on body language and less on clear communication.

That’s exactly why I created One Jump at a Time. Building clarity one jump at a time. 💙💗

😂 NEW WORKBOOK TESTER ALERT 😂

Walked out to change the course yesterday and found Kevin apparently working through the Agility Workbook drills…

I appreciate the enthusiasm mate, but we may need to discuss:

👉 obstacle commitment
👉 understanding the meaning of “jump” 😂
👉 lines and direction of travel
👉 overall technique 😅

The good news is the workbook is designed around quick, practical setups and modern handling decisions…

The bad news is I didn’t account for cats. 🤦‍♂️😂

Score Kevin’s performance out of 10

💥 Small space… BIG decision-making challenge 👀🔥

Here’s a fun little garden sequence inspired by concepts from Decision Making Genius.

Same obstacles… but multiple very different handling options depending on:
👉 your dog’s speed
👉 commitment to different jump behaviours
👉 turning ability (wraps vs slice)
👉 how confident they are with lead changes
👉 whether you prioritise extension or tighter lines

From the tunnel, handlers could:

* keep extension for the longer backside slice
* decelerate and shape the tighter threadle wrap
* front or blind cross for the backside wrap on jump 3

Then exactly the same type of decisions appear again later from 7 → 8 👀

That’s what makes modern agility so interesting…

there’s rarely just ONE answer!

💬 So… what handling option would YOU choose here?

Even better:
if you set this up, post your videos below! We’d love to see different solutions, timings, and route choices 🔥

One of my favourite things in training is seeing how different dogs solve the same challenge in different ways 💪

📚 Decision Making Genius explores these types of route choices, side changes, and handling decisions in much more detail.

Same sequence… two different handling options 👀🔥

One of the things I’ve tried to include throughout the new Agility Workbook is not just the sequence itself… but the different ways handlers might choose to solve it.

In these clips:

- first option keeps the dog on the left with the rear cross approach instead

- the second option uses the blind cross and push to the weave entry

Neither is necessarily “right” or “wrong” - they simply create different lines, different timing, and different visuals for the dog. They also challenge the handler in very different ways.

That’s a huge part of modern agility now:
👉 understanding options
👉 understanding commitment
👉 understanding what suits YOUR dog

The workbook discussions focus heavily on exactly these types of choices:
- side changes
- route options
- layering decisions
- obstacle commitment and effective lines
- timing and flow

And honestly… that’s what makes training fun 👊🔥

Friday training sequence 👀🔥

A free workbook-style challenge using minimal equipment but still creating plenty of modern handling decisions.

This setup creates some really interesting handling choices despite only using:
- 7 jumps
- 1 tunnel
- 1 dog walk (can use an Aframe instead)

The opening section forces the handler to commit to the layering challenge. If you support Jump #1 and Jump #2, you then need to send forward to the tunnel and Jump #4 while continuing to move yourself.

From there, there are a couple of interesting handling choices:

- stay on the left of the dog walk and threadle wrap Jump #6
- or blind cross between Jump #5 and Jump #6 and work the opposite side instead

The second layering section is also fun, especially when deciding whether to:
- send and wrap the finish
- or challenge yourself to make the blind cross before Jump #11

The dog walk exit into a backside wrap is a very common skill set by judges, and this setup creates plenty of opportunities to practise commitment, timing, layering, and route choices without needing a full course setup.

Exactly the type of handling discussions, challenge options, and coaching points explored throughout the new Agility Workbook 👊

One of my favourite comments so far has been:
“I love it! But I’m struggling to decide which one to set up first 😂 “

That’s exactly what I hoped this workbook would become - a practical training resource you keep coming back to.
