πΏ July Waterfront Homeowner Tip πΏ
π« Help stop invasive growth of Purple Loosestrifeβclip flower heads and throw the waste in the trash.
π If you spot Purple Loosestrife along your shoreline, act before seeds spread. Carefully cut the flower spikes and place them in a sealed bag for the trash ποΈ (not compost). Removing blooms limits seed production and helps native plants compete. π±
β
Call to Action: Take a shoreline walk-through this week πΆββοΈπΆββοΈ and clip and trash any Purple Loosestrife flower heads you find.
π Small actions can help protect healthy shorelines and wetlands! πΏ

The City of Waupaca has received reports of increased bear activity, particularly in the area near Lower South Park.
Bear Activity Alert & Safety Tips π»
1. Do not surprise bears or approach them.
2. Maintain a distance of at least 300 feet.
Itβs important for residents to take simple steps to reduce attractants and prevent encounters.
Bears are naturally curious and rely on their powerful sense of smell. They will investigate anything with an odor not just food, but garbage, birdseed, pet food, grills, and even scented items.
Be BearWise Help Keep Bears Wild & Our Community Safe:
π Trash & Recycling
β’ Clean trash containers regularly to reduce odors
β’ Keep lids closed and latched
β’ Store garbage in a secure building or enclosure
β’ Put trash out the morning of pickup, not the night before
β’ Rinse recyclables before disposal
π¦ Bird Feeders
β’ Avoid feeding birds when bears are active
β’ Store birdseed in secure containers
β’ Bring feeders in at night
β’ Clean up fallen seed daily
π₯ Grills & Outdoor Cooking
β’ Clean grills and drip pans after each use
β’ Keep grills covered and store inside when possible
β’ Never leave food unattended outdoors
π Vehicles
β’ Do not leave food, garbage, pet food, or scented items in vehicles
β’ Keep windows closed and doors locked
πΎ Pet Food
β’ Feed pets indoors whenever possible
β’ If feeding outside, remove food and bowls immediately after
π³ Yards, Gardens & Compost
β’ Pick up fallen fruit and harvest early
β’ Avoid using fertilizers containing bone or blood meal
β’ Do not compost meat, dairy, grease, or large amounts of fruit
β’ Keep compost secured
π‘ Homes & Buildings
β’ Keep doors, windows, and garages closed and locked
β’ Do not leave coolers, food, or trash on decks or porches
β’ Secure pet doors at night
Bears are intelligent and quick learners. Once they find a food source, they are likely to return. Taking these precautions helps protect your property, your neighbors, and the bears themselves.
If you encounter a bear, do not approach it. Give it space and report sightings to the Wildlife Services US Dept. of Agriculture at 920.324.4514 or the Waupaca PD.
The Wildlife Services is aware of the current bear in our community and MAY assist further in the removal of the bear if activity continues.
