Hockey 101: New Parent Edition
Your skater has been putting in the hours on the ice and the time has finally come… their first game! What do you need to know?
First things first - show up an hour early. It may seem like a lot of time, but this gives the kids plenty of time to get geared up, get pumped up, get warmed up, and get coached up! Those minutes matter and the bonding that happens is an added bonus for the team.
If it’s a home game, there are parent responsibilities. For mites, parents are needed only for the scoreboard. For squirts, peewees, and bantams, parents are needed still for the scoreboard, but also to run the penalty boxes, and the gamesheets. These responsibilities should be delegated/decided prior to the game via the Crossbar app or through your team manager. If you are ever unsure how to fulfill any of the duties, reach out to your team manager for help.
Jerseys. Always make sure that you don’t forget your game jersey! Mites have one jersey color for all games, while squirts, peewees, and bantams will have a light and a dark for home and away. Bring both jerseys for every game! Generally light is home and dark is away - but this will sometimes change if jersey colors are too similar.
