9:30PM Update: The training exercise is complete. The fire may smolder as the rainstorm rolls in, however the property owner has taken appropriate precautions to prevent the fire from spreading or becoming uncontrolled as the rain approaches.

This is an exercise!

The Pike County CTC's Adult Education Firefighter 1 class being taught at the Waverly Fire Department by our instructors will be conducting a live burn exercise on Second Street between Columbia Drive and Bristol Boulevard in an open field at approximately 7:30PM today, April 27, 2026. The exercise is anticipated to last for a couple of hours.

This live burn exercise will aid in wildland and brush fire behavior, suppression tactics, and most importantly, exposure to live fire in a controlled environment for students.

Again, this is an exercise and will not be an emergency response.
