Our first official 4C Stables Show Team outing is in the books! ๐
What a great time this was! Our lives revolve around horses-from early mornings in the barn to long days at horse shows-so it was refreshing to step away from the arena for an evening and simply enjoy each otherโs company.

โ๏ธ Summer Heat Reminder for Horse Owners โ๏ธ
As summer approaches and temperatures continue to rise, itโs important to remember that horses can be severely affected by heat and humidity. While maintaining a training schedule is important, working or riding your horse in unsafe conditions can put their health and safety at risk.
Exercising in excessive heat can lead to:
โข Dehydration
โข Heat stress and heat exhaustion
โข Heat stroke
โข Muscle fatigue and cramping
โข Increased heart and respiratory rates
โข Reduced performance and recovery
โ ๏ธ Watch for signs of heat stress:
Excessive sweating or lack of sweating, rapid breathing, elevated heart rate, weakness, lethargy, stumbling, muscle tremors.
๐ก๏ธ General Riding Guidelines:
โ
Safe Conditions
โข Temperature below 80ยฐF with moderate humidity.
โข Most horses can work normally with proper hydration and rest breaks.
โ ๏ธ Use Caution
โข Temperature 80โ90ยฐF.
โข Reduce workload, provide frequent breaks, and monitor your horse closely.
๐จ High Risk
โข Temperature above 90ยฐF, especially when humidity is over 60%.
โข Limit work to light exercise or consider postponing training.
โ Avoid Riding
โข When the combined temperature and humidity exceed 150 (for example, 90ยฐF with 60% humidity).
โข Heat index above 100ยฐF.
โข During the hottest part of the day, especially between 12 PM and 5 PM.
To keep your horse safe:
โ
Ride during the cooler morning or evening hours.
โ
Provide unlimited access to fresh, clean water.
โ
Ensure access to shade and airflow.
โ
Allow frequent rest breaks.
โ
Cool horses properly after exercise with water and walking.
โ
Monitor both temperature and humidityโnot just the temperature.
Remember: no ride, lesson, or training session is worth risking your horseโs health. Adjusting your schedule during the summer months is one of the best ways to protect your equine partner.
๐ด A healthy horse is a happy horse. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and ride responsibly this summer!โ๏ธ
