𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒚: 𝑯𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒆

There’s something special about our September ride.

With school back in full swing, camp is a little quieter. The groups are smaller, the pace is more relaxed, and many of the faces around camp are familiar ones - folks who have been coming to the Piney for years.

It's not about how big the ride is. It’s about coming home, saddling your horse, riding with good friends, swapping stories around the campfire, and soaking up a little time away from everyday life.

September in Missouri is that in-between season. The mornings and evenings can be cool enough for a campfire, while the afternoons are still warm enough to enjoy the river. The leaves haven’t started changing yet, but you can feel the seasons beginning to shift.

As I looked through my photographs from this ride, I kept coming back to the little moments - the couples holding hands in the river, friends laughing, and newcomers settling in and enjoying their first trip to Piney.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙖 4-𝙅 𝙃𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙚 🤠🐴🏞

So much goes into the makings of a 4J horse.

We’re not in the business of getting a horse today and trying to sell him tomorrow. We like to take our time, put some miles under him, introduce him to different situations, and learn how he handles them before we ever offer him to the public.

After our March sale, we usually have only a handful of horses left. Many of those horses simply need one thing.

𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

So that’s what they get.

We’ve been busy this summer putting miles and manners on some really nice horses. They’ve been getting out of the barn and onto the trails, around camp, and into situations that teach them to think, pay attention, and trust their rider.

This is the behind the scenes part of making a good trail horse that you don’t always get to see.
So we thought we’d take you along and give you a little insight into 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 4-𝗝 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲.

🔸️The miles.
🔸️The training.
🔸️The experiences.
🔸️The good days and the days when a horse tells us he needs a little more time.

Because when we finally put a 4J horse up for sale, we want to know more about him than whether he can carry a rider down the trail.

This is what I love about photographing the Piney. It's not just about taking pictures of horses, it's about capturing the smiles, friendships, families, and little moments that become memories.

Need a break? We know just the place!

Trade traffic for gravel roads. Trade screens for campfires. Trade the daily grind for the sound of horses, laughter, and the Big Piney River.

Our week-long horse camp starts Saturday, and the forecast couldn't be better! Cooler mornings for riding scenic Ozark trails, warm afternoons floating, kayaking, swimming, or simply relaxing by the river, and evenings filled with home-cooked meals, music, and stories around camp.

Don't have a horse? That's okay. You don't even have to ride to enjoy a week at camp. Bring the family, your kayak, your fishing pole, or just a lawn chair and come experience one of the prettiest places in the Ozarks. 🥰

Whether you're riding through the hills, watching horses splash through the river, or ending the day under a sky full of stars, you'll leave with memories that last long after the week is over.
