Dear GEMs and GEM families,

After 15 wonderful years, it is with a heavy heart that I announce the closing of our beloved dojo.
This has been a sad and difficult decision.

Our last day of classes will be Saturday August 1st, 2026.

It has been an honor to teach, mentor, and watch so many students grow—not only in martial arts, but also in confidence, discipline, and character. The friendships, memories, achievements, and support from our dojo family will stay with us forever.
We are so very proud of all the GEMs.

One of my greatest concerns has been ensuring that you have a soft place to land to continue your journey in the art of Isshin-Ryu, if you so choose. I am grateful to share that Master Chase, owner and head instructor of Chase Karate Academy in Penfield, has graciously opened his doors to welcome all GEMs.

Master Chase is the highest ranking black belt in the Rochester area, a phenomenal instructor, and the President of the Okinawan Isshin-Ryu Karate & Kobudo Association, the worldwide organization linking all Isshin-Ryu karateka together. He will be visiting us, at GEM, on Wednesday July 8th to introduce himself. He can be reached at www.chasekarate.com or 585-455-5739 if you would like to reach out.

We want to sincerely thank every student, parent, instructor, and supporter who has been part of this journey. Your trust, dedication, and commitment have meant more to us than words can express. You truly are GEMs. The lessons learned, friendships formed, and spirit of our community will continue long after our final class.

While the doors of the dojo are closing, GEM is not gone. This may be the end of this chapter, but definitely not the end of the story. Stay tuned!

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives for the past 15 years. We will cherish the memories we created together, forever. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like to talk.

We want to take a moment to thank each of you for being part of our karate family. Your support and trust mean more to us than words can express.

As our school continues to grow and improve, we are making a necessary adjustment to our tuition pricing. This change allows us to maintain the high-quality instruction, safe training environment, and ongoing improvements that our students deserve.

An email was sent with details, and it is posted at the dojo as well.

The holiday season is upon us! We will be closed starting on December 24th, and we will reopen on January 3rd!

Get those last classes in while you can, and we will come back in the new year ready to train and become great!
