Hey MPIIers! Today is June 1st, and June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month! June was chosen for LGBTQ+ Pride Month because late June of 1969 was when the Stonewall Uprising began in response to the police raid of the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, New York. The protests and community organization in response to the Stonewall raid were critical events leading to national momentum to begin the LGBTQ+ equal rights movement. The month-long observance typically includes numerous celebratory events and serves as an opportunity to raise awareness of ongoing political issues relevant to the community.

Hey MPIIers! Today is the last day of classes for all Pasco and Hillsborough public schools. The good news is there will be far fewer school bus slow downs during your commutes. However, for the duration of the summer, please be extra cautious and on the lookout for children crossing streets, riding bikes and scooters, etc. Stay safe out there MPII!

Hey MPIIers! Today is Eid al-Adha. Eid al-Adha is the Muslim Festival of Sacrifice. It commemorates the faith of Abraham and his willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael, as well as the Muslim Pilgrims making Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). This holiday actually began at sundown on the 26th and lasts until the evening of the 27th. To all those that celebrate, have a blessed Eid!

Hey MPIIers! Today is Memorial Day. Not to be confused with Veterans Day or Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day is the day we commemorate and appreciate the well over 1 million men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice and have died in service to our country. Have a wonderful long weekend but take a break from the cookouts and shopping to reflect on the sacrifices that all of our fallen service members have made. We thank them for their service and their sacrifice.

Hey MPIIers! We have an important announcement. Our amazing Splash Pad is in need of maintenance. We will be keeping it open through Memorial Day weekend. But, on Tuesday morning (5/26) the Splash Pad will be closed.

Work crews will be operating in the area through the week. We plan to reopen the Splash Pad on Saturday, 5/30 with normal hours. We will post here on Facebook if the timeline changes.

The main pool, the playground, and all other amenities will be open as normal.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.

Hey MPIIers! Today is Shavuot. Shavuot began as the Jewish festival of the grain and wheat harvest, but now also commemorates the revelation of the Torah to Moses. The holiday began at sundown on the 21st and ends at sundown on the 23rd. For those that celebrate: Chag Sameach!

Hey MPIIers! Today is Armed Forces Day. Today we honor all Americans serving in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and the Coast Guard. Thank you all very much for your service! MPII salutes you. Happy Armed Forces Day!
