Just finished up a great night of training! Got to work with some of our awesome kendo youths on technique and the Bokuto Niyoru kendo forms! These young kendoka are working really hard to grow their kendo skills, and it’s awesome to see their progress each class!
If you have kids who like swords and/or Japanese culture, this might be the perfect activity for them! 6-7:30 Mondays and Thursdays, come check us out! Message us for details!
Iaido was an intense session of self-practice, critical to development! So excited to see how our technique continues to develop in seitei and koryu! If you love swords and/or martial arts, you have to give this class a try! Mondays and Thursdays 7:45-9:45.

We just had another excellent BuSheDo class yesterday! Got a good sweat worked up as we practiced our swings and footwork. Yesterday’s keepin-it-fresh variation was a mini portion of the class where we worked on slow strength moves to build stabilizer muscles. Strict-form squat cuts and cutting into a balancing position on one leg were just some of the challenging, fun exercises we hit. Next weekend, Saturday the 15th is an orientation day. This is a free, open-house class for any ladies who wants to check out the class in a more relaxed, technique-focused setting. Come meet the instructor, have some tea, and try some of the exercises without having to commit to a full class. Contact Amelia at [email protected] for more info!

Good koryu training on Musoshindenryu with our friends from Omaha.

We had an intensive koryu training weekend with some special guests from the Omaha group. We spent a couple days training in Shoden and Chuden kata of Musoshindenryu Iaido.
Was pretty awesome reconnecting with these wonderful people and enjoying some after training, beverages and food as well.

Hmmmm, how can we use this for our kid's Kendo class?
Kendo at the Agassiz dojo, Mon / Thursday evenings from 6pm.

Musoshindenryu Chuden kata Ukigumo. This is one of my favorite kata, though it is quite challenging. Turning the body and twisting, sticking out the little chicken toe on the twist is sometimes even uncomfortable. The final cut is also twisting and lowering your hands below your knees on the outside of your knee which again is quite challenging. All good stuff!
At the Agassiz dojo in West Fargo, North Dakota, we practice Musoshindenryu Iaido as well as ZNKR seitei Iaido. Class time is our Monday and Thursday evenings from 7:45 p.m..
