October - November 1984, pictures of training at the Nagamine Honbu dojo. It was not just the training that was so special, but also the spirit and atmosphere of being in the cradle and birthplace of Okinawan Karatedo, and in particular, with Nagamine O-sensei and senior sensei of Matsubayashi Shorin Ryu karate.

A Great dojo does not just teach people how to Fight.

It teaches people how to show up.
On the hard days.
When motivation disappears.
When progress feels slow.
When the person next to you is more advanced.
Training alongside people of different ages, backgrounds, and ranks teaches humility, respect, and resilience in a way few things can.
That is why the dojo can become a second home.

In Oct-Nov 1984, while I was training in Okinawa, at the Nagamine Honbu dojo, Nagamine Takayoshi Sensei was busy many daytime hours campaigning for his Naha City Council position. However he still found plenty of time to be at the dojo for evening classes & take us around Okinawa on the days he was free, as well as weekends. Although he was A Simple Man, sometimes he lived a more complex life. Learn more about him on this Link >>>

2021 & 2022 Seminar & Reunion with Rich Franklin a UFC & MMA Legend.
It was a great day of "Giving" and "Training" at the Champions Do Overcome event for the children and families dealing with Pediatric Cancer and our Seminar with Eihachi Ota Sensei

"Martial Arts is always about Giving Back"

I was honored to help support this event with 3 of our dojo Yudansha, Eric Weikel, Dan Eppinghoff and Bruce Abbott. It was also a great reunion with my former karate student, UFC Champion Rich Franklin, who trained at our dojo in Harrison Ohio during the late 1980s & early 1990s, before he began his MMA career
