The West Haven Academy of Karate, Inc. believes in traditional values and we teach the classical art of Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan (The American School of the Way of the Empty Hand Defense) which was founded by Grandmaster and chief instructor Charles J. Ferraro. We augment our training in Tang Soo Do with the art of Hai D**g Gumdo (the way of the Korean Sword), Aikido, Ju-jitsu, Tai Chi and Philippine Martial Arts. We believe in fostering the principles of respect and discipline, long considered cornerstones for the martial arts. This integration helps to create a person who is free from inner conflict and who can deal with the outside world in a mature, intelligent, forthright and virtuous manner. Sitting quietly isn't the same as paying attention — three signs your child is actually taking it in, not just sitting through it.

1. They can repeat the instruction back in their own words, not just nod.
2. They try it themselves before asking you to do it for them.
3. They catch and correct their own mistake, without being told.

We watch for the same three on the mat.

Your kid's probably spending WAY too much time on their phone. 📱
(So are you. So am I. We're all guilty.)
But here's the thing…
School just started back up.
Which means homework. Projects. Tests.
And if your kid can't FOCUS for more than 30 seconds without checking TikTok…
This year's gonna be ROUGH.
Martial arts fixes that. 🥋
Not because we're gonna lecture your kid about screen time…
But because we're gonna give them something MORE interesting to focus on.
Something that actually makes them feel ACCOMPLISHED.
When kids train with us…
