This plant started as a short single stem that was gifted by Jeremy Mercado If you don’t know him Jeremy grows some of the best columnar cacti anywhere. I have an army of his cactus soldiers standing at attention all over my roof garden. They are true sun lovers that hold up under the harshest bright light conditions. Some of them are old enough to flower now. I bought them pickle-size. Monkey tail cacti can burn in full sun, so be careful. This one did fine with all day full sun, but my white spine monkey tail burned with full sun. Thanks Jeremy for every amazing plant that you grew from seed. You and your beautiful family of plants and human children make Instagram a lot more interesting.

This plant was a single head in a 4 inch pot from Anawalt lumber circa 2020. It bloomed 2x since then. It’s been about three years since it flowered. This year it looks like multiple blooms are on the way. The first might be tonight.
Trichocereus grandiflorus (commonly classified as [Echinopsis huascha] Red Torch Cactus or Echinopsis huascha

Seyrigia Humbertii Is a cool plant from Madagascar. It enjoys neglect. Summer grower. It did fine with winter rain in Southern California. The stems are the leafs, and it grows a caudex. Maybe next transplant I’ll expose that.

I have a nice shady corner right outside of my upstairs loft. When your garden is a rooftop garden you quickly find out which plants get sunburned and which plants thrive in intense sun. Today I built a square table and gathered the plants who were sheltered under my little fig trees. A lot of the gymnocalyciums are blooming now and I couldn’t see it under the dense foliage. I moved many of them last fall to protect them from too much sun. They loved it under filtered daylight! Several pots had roots growing into the soil under their little pots! I’ll do some rearranging when the morning sun is out. It’s nice to have a safe space to grow and enjoy these plants.

When you reach into a box to see what is hidden in the ball of fluff it can be a surprising experience!!!🤣 I bought this on from Amazing cactus with wicked spination and color. I can’t wait for the next flush of flowers. BTW, no fingers were damaged in unpacking. Chop sticks and forceps made cleanup and potting easy.

Details matter. I love getting up close and intimate with my plants. They love showing off so they don’t mind. plants will be dormant soon. So why not show some colors!

I acquired this tree from 1-2 years ago. It is a Cork Bark Jade, also known as Portulacaria afra developed by Frank Yee. The cork bark makes it look aged in a short amount of time. This feature and the small leaves make it a natural choice to bonsai. It grows rapidly in the spring and needed pruning. I am trying to root cuttings if you’re interested.
