This first video is from a recent game at the Barstool national invitational with FAU vs Loyola Chicago and while this may seem harmless athletes have already battled narratives of being unintelligent and lazy and not being able to have opinions on things other than sports and with this new age of sports gambling we are seeing way more scrutiny and closeted racism than there needs to be, athletes can critics from a place of understanding and mutual respect but it seems like much more for others. Understanding import rules of your league is SO IMPORTANT when deciding where you will play next and what contract to sign, Essentially, teams can’t sign the 12 best players money can buy. They can only sign the 12 best players who fit within the classifications of imports and nationals in that particular region/country. In Dre’s league the two imports could not share the court together so imagine only being able to stagger your two best players! Episode out Sunday!
One of the many things overseas basketball does it allows you to think of your life outside of the sport, it may be due to the uncertainty or sometimes long off season or even the nature of the travel but like everything else athletes are looking for ways create a life for themselves when they can no longer play at a certain level. We see it with athletes entering the media space and athletes starting or being apart of sports agencies is MAJOR for the basketball landscape as many things we weren’t taught we now get to pass down to others! Basketball leagues overseas have restrictions on the amount of import players allowed on each team. The import player definition varies depending on the league but it typically means a player with a passport outside of the country. An example is an American playing in China or Europe. Some Leagues allow multiple import players, more than two, and others only allow one because of financial or budget restriction. All imports come with an expectation! Episode out Sunday!
