Knee pain is one of the most common issues people experience as they get older.

But what many people don’t realize is that the knee is rarely the real problem.

In many cases, knee discomfort develops because the muscles that support the joint — especially the hips, glutes, and hamstrings — are not doing their job.

When those muscles weaken, the knee often ends up absorbing more stress than it was designed to handle.

The good news is that strengthening the muscles around the knee and improving movement patterns can make a significant difference in long-term joint health.

On March 28th, Team Top Tier Personal Training showed up for something bigger than ourselves — supporting the Parkinson’s community.

While we set out with a goal of raising $1,500 and reached $331, we are incredibly grateful for every single person who donated, walked with us, and supported the cause. This is just the beginning — and we will absolutely come back stronger next time.

At Top Tier Personal Training, our mission goes far beyond workouts. We are deeply committed to strength training, brain health, and longevity, especially within the 50+ and senior community. From my early days in martial arts, to personal training, to health club management, and now to where I stand today with TopTier Personal Training serving the 50+ and senior community—it’s been a journey built one day at a time.

Fitness has never been “just a job” for me. It’s been a lifestyle, a life teacher, and a constant reminder that discipline, consistency, and resilience always carry over into every aspect of life.

Struggling with chest strength? Chances are, your shoulders and triceps are taking over during lifts. To fix this, focus on:

1️⃣ Pulling your shoulder blades down and back for stability.

2️⃣ Slowing your reps to feel your chest working.

3️⃣ Warming up with scapular push-ups or band pull-aparts to activate stabilizers.

Plie Squats Are a Game-Changer!

1️⃣ Build Strength That Matters
This move strengthens and builds your INNER THIGHS, GLUTES, and QUADS.

👉Pro-tip FOR BEGINNERS:
Start with a chair for support if you’re new. Progress at your own pace, you will feel stronger and more confident in no time. Once you feel ready pick up a less than moderate to light weighted dumbbell and GO GOR IT!

👉DO THE WORK 🤨

1️⃣ Set-Up
Stand with your feet wider than shoulder-width apart. Turn your toes out at a 45-degree angle and keep your chest lifted/ slightly arched out

2️⃣ The Move
Lower your hips straight down (like you’re sliding along a wall). Keep your knees aligned with your toes. “GO AS LOW AS YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE” Push through your heels to stand back up.

3️⃣ Reps & Sets Beginners:
Start with 10 reps x 2 sets.
Feeling stronger? Try 15 reps x 3 sets
Hold onto a chair for balance if needed.
METHOD: Pause at the bottom for a count of 3 to acquire good controlled technique and mind to muscle connection

Building muscle after 50 doesn’t have to come with the aches and pains! By adding corrective exercises to your routine, you can improve mobility, fix muscle imbalances, and reduce injury risk. Incorporate mobility drills like banded, reverse lunges and TKEs before or after your heavy lifts to ensure you're lifting with good form and activating the right muscles.
