With our final race weekend approaching, we want to make everyone aware of an adjustment to the 2026 championship format.
When we announced this year's championship structure, we had a 15-race schedule planned. The format allowed each driver to drop their three worst races, with the Top 4 in points being reset entering the final event and the highest finishing driver of those four being crowned champion.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature and circumstances outside of everyone's control have given us a much different season than the one we planned. Heading into our final race, we have only been able to complete 5 of the originally scheduled 15 races.
Because of that, we don't believe the original format still accomplishes what it was intended to accomplish.
Dropping three races from such a shortened season would mean that only a very small portion of the races we were actually able to complete would determine who qualifies for the championship battle. Resetting the Top 4 after that would further minimize the results drivers have earned throughout the season.
For that reason, we have made the decision that all completed races will count toward the 2026 championship, and there will be no Top 4 points reset.
The championship will be decided simply by total points earned throughout the season. After our final event at Florence Speedway on September 19, the driver with the most points will be crowned the 2026 Ohio Valley Legend Car Series Champion.
We understand that making an adjustment this late in the season will not be everyone's preferred decision. It isn't something we take lightly, and under normal circumstances we would never want to alter a championship format this close to the end.
However, we're dealing with a season that ultimately looks nothing like the 15-race championship the original format was designed around. We believe counting every race that we were fortunate enough to complete is the fairest way to determine this year's champion.
Every green flag mattered. Every finish mattered. And now it all comes down to Florence Speedway on September 19.
We'll see everyone at the finale!
