SWIMMER SPOTLIGHT:

Aubrey (9) and Ava (7) just finished up with their another year of lessons with me, and the progress these girls made in just 2 weeks was incredible!

Both girls came in knowing how to swim with basic technique, but needed some refresh before summer was in full swing.

Over the 2 weeks, we:

- strengthened our front crawl so much that we were swimming in the deep end unassisted

- introduced treading and finished with 50 sec tread times for both girls

- worked on the backstroke and finished with being able to do this in the deep end unassisted as well

- DIVING BOARD JUMPS (this was the girls biggest goal from the beginning, and they were so excited!)

Terrific job, Miss Ava and Miss Aubrey! Yet again, it’s been so much fun to work with you girls and watch you both grow more confident in the water 👏🏼

ONLY 10 DAYS UNTIL THE FIRST DAY OF SWIM LESSONS 🥳

Limited spots for private & semiprivate lessons are still available! Be sure to check out this season’s newest group Baby Swim Class & Advanced Swimmers Class too 👀

Before summer swim lessons start, I wanted to show off what we have been working on during the school year in Iowa City. Reese (6) and Fenton (3) have been doing semiprivate lessons with me this past semester, and have both had tremendous growth!

Today, we’re shining a light on how Reese has individually progressed during our time:

Reese came to our first class as someone who was comfortable in the water, but unable to swim independently. On our final lesson, >6 months after our first, she tested out of ALL criteria to be a safe swimmer.

This clip shows her finishing up her laps- where she swam the length of the pool independently, twice. In both freestyle AND backstroke positions.

Beyond that, Reese completed the safety skills check- where she demonstrated the ability to independently jump in the water, roll on to her backfloat, and swim to the pools edge. As a bonus, she also more than doubled our treading goal of 30 seconds by treading for 63 seconds.

I’m so proud of the progress that we’ve made, and that they will undoubtedly continue to make. Counting down the days until summer swim lessons start & the opportunity to enable more safe, independent, and confident swimmers begins.

Monday Swim Educational:

When picking out swimsuits this summer, opt for bright colors and patterns. In the study shown above, you can see that this ensures much more visibility under the water.

I’ve included some examples of what to look for and what to avoid. Whenever possible, look for long sleeved swimsuit tops for an added layer of sun protection!

Here’s to a safe summer of swim coming soon :)

1. Record new and exciting skills! I invite parents to stay so that they might have this opportunity. Let your children rewatch this later on so they may have a visual to reflect on what they are doing in the water.

2. Dry practice! There are many techniques that can be easily practiced: on the living room floor, in the car, in the bathtub, etc. Swimmers are often sent home with homework, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be practiced at a pool!

3. Watch the lesson! Understanding the things we practice in class, will better equip you with the tools to help your child practice.

4. Leave the floaties at home. Whenever possible, practice letting your child swim without floats (!!! WITH ADULT SUPERVISION/GUIDANt!!!). With young/beginner swimmers, this is crucial to helping them understand their own buoyancy. Try encouraging your child by holding them in horizontal positions, assisting their kicks, practicing floats, etc.

5. Remember everyone goes at their own pace. The biggest challenge to overcome with learning how to swim, is learning how to be comfortable in the water. The timeline of building trust and understanding safety is the step that varies the most by individuals. The best way to achieve goals is to practice, practice, practice!

1. Due to limited availability, this summer’s lessons will be conducted in a “camp” style format. This means that instead of hosting weekly recurring lessons, I will have 3- 4 weeks of availability. I encourage you to use those weeks to attend recurring daily lessons, M-F.

2. I have a new booking site! It will be linked below. Please disregard the previous booking software that we have used in the past.

CURRENT OPEN SWIM CAMP WEEKS:
- May 29 - June 2nd
- June 5 - June 9
- June 26 - June 30

I am hopeful that I will be able to add at least 1 more week of availability. Please stay tuned for updates on what those dates may be.

BOOKING IS NOW OPEN.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing new and returning families this summer :)

Hello friends!! ❤️

It’s bittersweet to announce that Miss B’s Swim School will be closed for summer 2022.

I was presented with an incredible opportunity to intern in London this May through August.

I will miss teaching lessons so much this year!! The plan is to be back for more swim time in summer 2023. Until then, I will provide some resources for great places to go practice those swim skills while I’m away this summer.

Thank you all for the constant support! Until next year 🏊‍♀️🌞

First day of lessons ☑️.

Sutton’s goals for this year are to: jump in and go underwater & to backfloat independently!! When I asked her what her shirt said, she says it means “swimming lessons”- so she’s got the gear for those goals! 😉

Looking forward to more lessons and goal setting!! 🙌🏽🤩
