🏒 BIG NEWS FOR THE RECPLEX! 🎉

We’re excited to officially welcome Casey’s as the naming rights partner for the newest ice sheet coming to the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex!

Through a $1 million investment, the new ice sheet inside our Event Center will officially become the Casey’s Ice Rink. 🙌

This partnership represents another major step forward for the Event Center project and will help us continue expanding opportunities for local athletes and families while bringing even more regional and national events to West Des Moines.

We are incredibly grateful to Casey’s for believing in the vision for this project and choosing to make such a significant investment in our community. We can’t wait to see the Casey’s Ice Rink come to life! 🏒🥅

And the momentum continues! There are still opportunities for businesses and organizations to become part of the Event Center and leave their mark on this exciting addition to the RecPlex.

Do you love recreation, working with people, creating great experiences and bringing programs to life? The MidAmerican Energy RecPlex is looking for our next Recreation Coordinator!

This full-time position will help lead and grow our camps, clinics, leagues and recreation programs while working with an incredible team of Program Directors, Event Staff, instructors, families and community partners.

From developing new programs and training staff to helping create memorable experiences for participants of all ages, no two days at the RecPlex are quite the same!

If you’re energetic, organized, creative and enjoy making a positive impact in your community, we’d love to hear from you.

Another exciting day of the AAU Junior Olympic Games is underway, and today we're shining the spotlight on Trampoline & Tumbling! 🤸 As we welcome these talented athletes, coaches, and families to the RecPlex, here are a few fun facts about this gravity-defying sport:

⭐ Trampoline & Tumbling includes four competitive events: individual trampoline, synchronized trampoline, double mini trampoline, and power tumbling—each testing a unique combination of skill, speed, and control.

⭐ Athletes can soar more than 20 feet into the air during trampoline routines while performing incredible flips and twists with remarkable precision.

⭐ Success in Trampoline & Tumbling requires a combination of power, body control, spatial awareness, flexibility, and perfect timing to execute routines safely and accurately.

⭐ Dance is one of the oldest forms of human expression, with evidence of people dancing dating back thousands of years across cultures around the world.

⭐ Competitive dance includes a wide variety of styles, including jazz, hip hop, contemporary, ballet, lyrical, tap, pom, and more—each with its own unique techniques and performance qualities.

⭐ Dance combines athleticism and artistry, requiring strength, flexibility, endurance, coordination, musicality, and creativity to bring every routine to life.

⭐ Gymnastics is one of the oldest Olympic sports, having been part of the modern Olympic Games since 1896.

⭐ Women's artistic gymnastics features four events—vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise—while men's artistic gymnastics competes in six events, adding pommel horse, still rings, parallel bars, and horizontal bar.

⭐ Gymnasts train for years to develop the strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, and confidence needed to perform routines that can last less than two minutes.

⭐ Wrestling is one of the oldest competitive sports in the world, with a history dating back more than 5,000 years and even appearing in ancient Egyptian artwork.

⭐ Olympic-style wrestling features two disciplines: Freestyle, where athletes can attack both the upper and lower body, and Greco-Roman, where holds below the waist are not allowed.

⭐ Success in wrestling depends on much more than strength—athletes rely on technique, balance, agility, endurance, and strategy to outmaneuver their opponents.

Day five of the AAU Junior Olympic Games is underway, and today we're shining the spotlight on Jump Rope! 🪢 As we welcome these talented athletes, coaches, and families to the RecPlex, here are a few fun facts about this high-energy sport:

⭐ Competitive jump rope includes events that test speed, power, endurance, and freestyle creativity, with athletes performing impressive tricks and routines individually and as part of a team.

⭐ Top jump rope athletes can complete more than 180 jumps in just one minute, demonstrating incredible coordination, agility, and stamina.

⭐ Many freestyle routines combine flips, crosses, multiple-under jumps, and synchronized team skills—all performed while keeping the rope moving without interruption.

Another exciting day of the AAU Junior Olympic Games is underway, and today we're shining the spotlight on Sport Stacking! 🥤 As we welcome these talented athletes, coaches, and families to the RecPlex, here are a few fun facts about this fast-paced sport:

⭐ Sport stacking cups are specially designed with textured exteriors for better grip, smooth interiors for faster sliding, and small air holes that prevent the cups from sticking together—helping athletes stack at incredible speeds.

⭐ Official sport stacking competitions feature several events, including the 3-3-3, 3-6-3, and Cycle, where athletes race against the clock to build and unstack cups in specific patterns.

⭐ The fastest sport stackers can complete an entire Cycle in just a few seconds, showcasing incredible hand-eye coordination, focus, and lightning-fast reflexes.

⭐ Baton twirling combines dance, gymnastics, flexibility, and precise baton skills into one dynamic performance.

⭐ The sport traces its roots back to military drum majors, who twirled batons while leading marching bands before evolving into the competitive sport we know today.

⭐ Competitive baton twirlers perform routines that feature high tosses, rolls, aerials, and intricate catches, all while showcasing artistry, timing, and coordination.
