Thanks again, Mineola! We had an absolute blast at the Mineola Street fair, and we couldn't have done it without and . Here's to next year, friends!
We'd like to take a moment to interrupt our regularly scheduled programming in order to celebrate a long time member of the family, . I first met Tom when he was 16 (or 17? I'm not entirely sure) and while I knew he was unique (after all how many deaf college wrestlers do you know who can have a discussion about Plato after squatting for an hour?), I can safely say that he continues to surprise. In an era where too many of us choose the safe paths of conformity, leisure and laziness, Tom is truly a cut above. His neverending desire for self-improvement landed him in the cage for the first time this past weekend, and he did not disappoint. The man they call "Beethoven" calmly (the dude almost looked like the Terminator) walked into the cage and dismantled his opponent in a unanimous three round decision. I can safely say that I have rarely, if ever, been more proud of a member of the family. Tom, your frenetic work ethic, neverending commitment to excellence and timely delivery of Monster energy drinks truly put you in a class by yourself. I think I can speak for everyone at when I say that you're well on your way to composing a beautiful symphony... the first of many.
Happy Halloween, my friends.
Happy Birthday to our one and only Marissa/Marcia Clark! Known for her superior back gainz, ridiculous push up prowess and propensity for telling almost everyone she meets about her day, Marissa has truly ingratiated herself to the community. We can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that she is one of the nicest, most caring humans we've ever met and that her enthusiasm for everything she does is truly contagious. We love having her at RSP, even if we still have no idea exactly what she does for a living. Marissa, we hope your day was absolutely fantastic, and that the entire world came to a halt in order to celebrate your day of birth. We all know you deserve it. You're truly one of a kind!

Valentine's Day can be brutal.
Each year there is always a ton of stress surrounding this "holiday".
If you have a significant other, you're worrying about what to do, where to go, and how much to spend.
If you don't have someone, you're destined to spend the day alone, looking on as everyone around you is (seemingly) having a good time.
But what if it's the worst of both worlds?
What if you have your eyes on someone... and they don't have their eyes on you?
(A fate crueler than the worst of hells)
Well thankfully, we can help you with these issues.
Some of them, anyway.
How?
By getting your ass in shape and making you more appealing to the girl of your dreams, and giving you a $100 Gift card to Westbury's own Casa Di Fratelli for some high quality Italian cuisine.

Furthest toss wins a gift card to

Happy Birthday (yesterday) to Coach Eric!
The guy thats always picking me up just so I can put him down…
I can always count on Eric to leave the lights on all night or the AC on all weekend. I can count on him to take days to answer important texts (if he doesn’t ignore them completely) and I can always count on him to never show up to a non gym related event.
I can also count on him to put up with my ball busting even when I go too far. I can count on him to put me in my place when I get off track and I can ALWAYS count on him to be there for me if I truly needed him.
I’m lucky to have a psychopath as loyal as him on my side…and you are too.
Let’s wish the old man a very Happy Birthday shall we?
Happy Birthday to the and only Kelly! You know friends, Kelly is the textbook definition of a super mom. We're not kidding. The woman is absolutely incredible, always making time to support her two sons in their studies, as well as their favorite hobbies of martial arts and heavy metal listenership. What's even more impressive is that she consistently makes time to take care of herself, with the full knowledge that it will make her a better mother, wife and human. This might not sound remarkable to you, but think about it: How many of us get caught up in day to day activities, only to let ourselves go? Not Kelly, and it shows, as this super mom has lost a ton of weight and gained a ton of strength since joining the family. She's an inspiration, and we can't emphasize enough how awesome it is to have her. Kelly, Happy Birthday to you. We hope you had an absolutely fantastic day, and that the boys were on their best behavior. If they weren't, just send them to RSP in their gis and let us teach them a lesson, ok? We promise they'll never be disrespectful again when we're done...

WHOS GONNA BEAT HIM?!
I used to be so hardcore.
Â
In my 20s, I was pretty much ready to die every time I trained.
Â
That might sound crazy, but it’s not an exaggeration.
Â
Everything I had consumed told me that sets had to be performed at maximal intensity, and that squats, bench presses, and deadlifts were MANDATORY.
Â
I had it all figured out.
Â
I was getting big and strong and preaching the gospel of hardcore to the meathead congregation.
Â
My sermons were met with rousing approval from the hyper dedicated fundamentalists of the church of gainz, and we kept hammering away, content to get swole until the end of time.
Â
But something happened.
Â
I turned 30.
Â
Things started to hurt.
Â
Back squats seemed like less of a good idea, and machines began looking appealing.
Â
What happened? Did I get soft? Did my T levels drop to subterranean depths?
Â
No, I was just paying the price of a decade of piss-poor exercise selection, technique, and recovery.
Â
It turns out that my fundamentalist application of the gospel of gainz wasn’t ideal.
Â
It pains me to say this, but you don’t HAVE to squat, bench, and deadlift.
Â
They’re key movements.
Â
They’re great for strength and size.
Â
But some people shouldn’t do them.
Â
Maybe you’re beat up from years of doing them improperly.
Â
Maybe you’re not built for them.
Â
Or maybe loading your spine just HURTS.
Â
If a movement makes you hobble like an elderly man even after you’ve dedicated yourself to perfecting it, it’s not for you.
Â
Your exercise selection in the gym doesn’t make you hardcore.
Â
There’s no virtue in beating your body to death because someone on the internet said it was cool.
Â
There’s no upside to having the joints of an old man when you’re in your forties.
Â
You know what’s hardcore?
Â
Playing with your kids and protecting your family.
Â
Being able bodied enough that your children remember you for being athletic, not a hobbled has-been.
Â
Not preaching to the choir of losers on internet forums or trying to impress a few dudes on social media with your “big lifts”.
Â
Find what works for you and listen to your body.
Â
Save yourself for what matters.
Â
THAT is hardcore.
‼️NEW CHALLENGE‼️
April’s Challenge is a Broad Jump.
Furthest jump wins...duh
Start with feet behind the white line. Jump as far as you can and stick the landing. A coach will measure from your back heel.
As always a $25 gift card is on the line!
Let’s get after it!
Who are you?
 Â
It's the simplest question of all and it’s far more difficult than reciting the name your parents gave you.
Â
We all have a name.
Â
But how many of us have an IDENTITY?
Â
If my short time on this earth has shown me anything, the answer is VERY.
Â
And this is a real tragedy.
Â
Why? And why are you hearing about this from Random Fitness Man, and not someone you’ve bestowed more authority upon?
Â
I don’t know.
Â
But what I DO know, is that the fitness industry has helped me confront more potential identity crises than Carl Jung.
Â
Everywhere I look, people are trying to be something they’re not.
Â
Tall, thin guys doing drugs in an attempt to appear as jacked as a manlet.
Â
Women mutilating their bodies with cosmetic surgery in an attempt to appear more like their favorite model… who also mutilated their body.
Â
And no one is happy.
Â
Fighting upstream can be rewarding (and necessary) if you’re fighting an enemy.
Â
But fighting who you are is futile and depressing.
Â
I’m not saying you should give in and embrace your vices.
Â
What I am saying is that figuring out who you are and basing your pursuits on your TRUE identity is paramount to success and happiness.
Â
Take RSP.
Â
When we first dreamt up this whole operation, we dreamed of training people who wanted to train.
Â
People who came to the gym to seek self-improvement at virtually any cost.
Â
NOT people who came to the gym to kvetch.
Â
At first, we were successful.
Â
But we compromised.
Â
Soon, we were playing therapists for the emotionally disturbed.
Â
It sucked.
Â
But a few years and one pandemic later, we’re getting back on track.
Â
And that means every day, we have to look in the mirror and make decisions based on who we are.
It’s liberating AND terrifying.Â
It means facing the future with an unmitigated sense of clarity and finally having a filter by which to separate our wheat from our chaff.Â
We are Relentless Strength and Performance, and we help people who help themselves.
We empower those with will.
We provide strength for those who seek it on their own and wield it a virtuous way.
Â
Who are you?
Vito's waiting.
He wants to know.
From client to coach. Mike understands the difference. Just listen to what the man has to say:
"Before coming to , I had just come off of a 12 month, 90 pound weight loss journey. I was training at a commercial gym by myself working out 7 days a week. Every day in the gym was full throttle, 100% intensity filled with monotonous cardio, resistance machines and dumbbell sets. I had no idea how to use a barbell or how to get stronger. My relationship with food was horrible, I was afraid to eat carbohydrates and was basically starving myself. I had no direct training goals and was overly obsessed with how I looked. Then I met Eric and Brandon.
After just a few months of training at RSP I realized that every day in the gym is not supposed to hurt. Fitness has so much more to offer than just changing your physique. The gym is supposed to make you feel strong and healthy while changing your body’s composition.
Everybody is not genetically built to lift the same weight and perform the same exercise movements, and your programming at RSP is made for what best suits your body’s capabilities. Eric and Brandon provide you with top tier coaching, and make training enjoyable rather than slamming pre workout while blasting music to make the time go by. I want to train now, instead of forcing myself to.
What sets RSP apart from other gyms is the direct feedback on your movements. Instead of aimlessly performing exercises in hopes of success, Eric and Brandon TEACH you how your supposed to feel in certain positions.
Your experience at RSP will provide you with a lifetime of knowledge in fitness that you will be able to use forever, as well as in your daily life. I have recommended 2 family members to RSP and would recommend them to anyone that wants to improve their life both physically and mentally."
- Mike, RSP coach, FDNY EMS and overall badass
This week's shout out goes out to our dude Liam Kelly. We've known Liam for a long time, and he rejoined RSP to do virtual workouts with us during the height of the quarantine. He stuck with his training for months, and eventually rejoined us IRL relatively recently. Since then, the man has been killing it. He listens to everything we say, trains his ass off, and last week the man even showed up on his birthday. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people turn into birthday prima donnas and take a day off from training just to drink wine and read birthday cards... but not Liam. The man showed up and got it done. And all of this speaks nothing of his incredible work ethic as a father, husband and overall provider. He's the man, and he's the only Grateful Dead fan we wouldn't throw in a gulag if we ran the world. How's that for love? Keep up the great work, Liam!
Happy Birthday to 's very own Uncle Joe Smeriglio! Known for his luminescent shaved head, unmatchable knowledge of the various flashpoints of all different types of flammable liquid fuel, and his fervent hatred of tardiness, Joe is an invaluable member of RSP’S Boomer Crew (where discussion include, but are not limited to, Woodstock, Reaganomics and how these damn millennials are just a bunch of softies). Now we can bust Joe's balls all we want, but it doesn't change the fact that he's an incredible family man who loves his kin and demands the best from them. Don't believe me? Take a look at this snippet from a Smeriglio family dinner, where Uncle Joe harshly tells his nephew/RSP coach that he never quite had the makings of a varsity athlete. It may seem a little nasty, but trust us when we say that Mike needed to hear it. In all seriousness, Joe is a stand up dude and we'd be lucky to have a gym full of people like him. He's the man and we're proud to call him our collective Uncle. Happy Birthday Joe. Enjoy your day and play some Pink Floyd loud and proud. They made be a boomer band, but goddamn that Roger Waters could play, huh?
Happy Birthday to Coach Vito! You know, this time last year we at really felt like we needed something extra. We were supremely confident in our coaching, our culture, and our ability to get results for our clients. There was just one issue: We lacked leadership. We needed someone with that extra fire and intensity to push our business forward and force us to become the men we always knew we could be. We thought this would be hard to find, until Coach Vito's resume crossed our desk(s). Simply put, his credentials were unparalleled. Be it through his leading the Chicago Bulls to two three-peats in the 90s, coaching the Green Bay Packers to victory in the first ever Super Bowl, fomenting a successful worker's revolution in the jungles of Cuba, or going for a quick ride in a convertible with Jackie Kennedy in Dallas (word is they were gunning for Vito that day...), this Roman Dog of War's accomplishments were too vast to be ignored. And while we haven't yet successfully attained the type of fitness industry dominance that Vito's Roman ancestors once exercised over the Mediterranean region for the better part of a millennia, we can safely say that we are far closer to our goals than we were last year. Vito, Happy Birthday to you. May the world continue to adore you for your beauty, be in awe of your physical strength, and fear your savage Roman temperament. You are, for lack of a better term, A Good Boy.
Hello my name is Eric and I'm a recovering over-complicater.
(Is that a word?)
For years, I let my insecurities get the best of me.
Fearing that I wasn't being respected for my intellect, I would frequently make training programs, philosophical conversations or even driving directions more complicated then they needed to be.
(Ok maybe not that last one. I might just have a terrible sense of direction....)
I guess I thought that if I had figured something out, then I needed to muddy the waters for everyone else to show people that I had some type of intellectual superpower they didn't.
Not surprisingly, my programs sucked and nobody wanted to discuss anything of consequence with me.
After all, who likes a self-righteous jerk off who uses an obscurantist style to say in 100 pages what could have been said in 10?
It took me years to realize that simplifying your worldview regarding anything takes both balls AND brains.
Overcomplication, to a certain extent, shields you from any real criticism of whatever you're trying to explain.
Yeah, someone can always say that you're making things too complex, but the classic do**he bag response is always "I'm sorry that this is too complicated for your small brain to comprehend."
It's much akin to wearing 5 hoodies to the gym to obscure the fact that you barely look like you lift.
Meanwhile, the person who is able to articulate their views in a manner so cogent that a 8 year old could understand it is left open to the critiques of anyone who comes across their ideas.
It's terrifying.
I've often heard it said that if you can't explain your point to a child, you don't truly understand it.
I couldn't agree more.
We can wax poetic all day, but it's always those who are able to communicate in a clear and honest fashion that have the most potential to win people over.
Don't believe me? Read some Nietzsche, and then try reading some Foucalt.
Regardless of what you think of ol' Fred's worldview, you'll understand immediately that his popularity has as much to do with his readability as it does with his philosophy.
Challenge yourself.
Keep things simple.
You'll have a better chance of making a difference.
"If anyone had told me a year and half ago that I would consistently workout 3x a week and rarely miss a session, I would have laughed. Pre-RSP, I always thought that to get the results I was after I would need to go to the gym every day - either joining group classes or use the treadmill. But I never saw or felt a difference, and inevitably I would stop showing up after a few weeks. Nothing ever really stuck.
Â
Yet here I am all these months later since joining RSP, training and completing exercises I would never thought of to do on my own, and still looking forward to every session. Coaches Eric and Brandon design challenging, efficient routines with simple exercises that focus on proper form and are incredibly effective.  So far, I feel strong and amazed at how much I've accomplished. I have muscle tone in places I’ve never had before. And, I always feel energized when my workout is over.Â
But the real personal benefit with their approach was that it changed my overall mindset to where I now focus on building consistent, sustainable, healthy habits. And, I think this is what sets RSP apart. Wherever you are in your health journey, Eric and Brandon are so encouraging and supportive that you start to form a better relationship with yourself, which helps set you up for long-term success. Not to mention this mental shift has improved every area of my life and I’m all better for it.
Â
My only regret is not joining RSP sooner."
- Hazel

Ladies and gentlemen, please join us in congratulating in his dominating victory over some very game opposition in last month's challenge, the flexed arm hang. Matt overcame some strict judging standards and a variety of high level competition to take home his gift card, where he will inevitably dine like a king following one of his savage early morning lifts. Matt, congratulations on burying your opposition deeper than an opponent in a Buried Alive match. May they never forget the deep sense of inferiority they felt when they saw your unbeatable score go up on the scoreboard. Strength and honor.
Happy Birthday to the weirdest person to ever set foot in , ! To be fair, Liam's weirdness comes as no surprise to us, especially when you consider that we've known him for damn near 5 years, and he's always made a point to return to RSP even after the longest of hiatuses. And even though his weirdness may be a defining characteristic to some, it isn't to us. Why? We've had the luxury of getting to know Liam as a truly hardworking man who always busts his ass in the gym and crushes it in all areas of life for his family. He's also the world's biggest (only?) unironic REO Speedwagon fan and is the most intellectually equipped to debate whether or not Asia is a supergroup (they may be a super group, but they suck). Liam, I'd tell you that I hope you enjoy your birthday... but I know you will, since you'll be training at tonight. We'll see you then!

This week's shout out goes to our homey and long time family member, .nicolee! Now why would we pick this time to shout out Susan, especially since she's pretty much always a straight up force to be reckoned with? Well, first of all... she's back at and we're glad to see her! But secondly (and perhaps more importantly), she came back to the gym in incredible shape. Susan made the decision to stay out of gyms during much of the quarantine, but as you can see, that didn't stop her from getting it done on her own. If we're being honest (and when are we not being honest?!), a lot of people can't say the same. But we've learned from experience that Susan isn't like most people. Her discipline, attention to detail, work ethic and loyalty are unparalleled. That's why she's our weekly shout out, and that's why we're lucky to have her. Keep crushing it, Susan! We love you!!
