Midwest Drags

Bryan Anders nitrous fed 427 pilots one of the shortest wheel based cars within the Drag-N-Drive Community. The 1977 Chevette (with matching trailer). Besides competing for the giveaway car in 2021, Anders raced with us in 2019. Anytime you can finish a Drag-N-Drive, it's impressive. Doing so with a weekly average of 8.938 is more so. Especially because Midwest Drags is the DND that requires two (2) time slips per day across four days. Class Champions are crowned with the lowest ET of Eight slips.

In 2021 Tony McFall out of Ohio finished the week strong, 3rd place in Modified NA. Long time bracket racers, NHRA 10.90 and 6.50 index, the Midwest Drags was McFall's first swing at Drag-N-Drive. To survive the week, McFall reduced his launch RPM from 4,500 to 3K however, the powerglide and 410:1 still spun the motor to 7800 on the big end. The E85 SB only ran out of fuel one time due to the 4 mpg and other than a single 4 link hyme, the old bracket car proved it can live on the streets.

In 2022, Bob Larson made the trip to Indiana / Ohio all the way from Kansas. Bob competed his straight axle 1930 Coupe in the B Gas class.

Wender Gomes has raced with us for the past two years. In 2023, the Mustangs' best was 9.032 however during the winter, Wender found a half second and returned in 2024 with a 8.549. Making the 2016 Mustang a serious player in the Street Race Small Block PA class with other Hitters like Brian Acton and Brandon Ciriello.

In July of 2023, The Midwest Drags began our 'East Coast Invasion' and local, Hobart Trent raced with us for the his first time. The Hot Rod class is not an easy one, all cars are required to be 1949 or older and don't sport the modern driving comforts of newer cars. At the time, Trent thrashed to make his build driveable and a full interior was a comfort he willing to live without. Two hits per day and 850 miles later, Trent rolled into Virginia Motorsports Park on Friday, finishing the week.

One of the cleanest '55s on the planet and like Brian Lohnes has said about Frank Romano's BBC powered tri-five, 'not one hair out of place'. 2021 was the year we gave away the Golden Star Classic Auto Parts '67 Chevy II, won and owned by Jay Grabiak. Romano came to win and always finishes strong in Manual Shift (H-pattern or Unlimited). In '21 the silver '55 finished the week in 2nd with an impressive 9.600 @ 142.81 MHP.

June 10th 2022, Heather Klepinger finished with a weekly average of 12.072 across eight (8) timeslips. Husband Scott Klepinger lined up for the first time ever at the Midwest Drags.

On June 3th 2021, We visited Lucas Oil Raceway. Driver, Terry Strange was sporting a freshened 358 RoushYates Nascar motor in the modified NA class. Everyday he got faster and finished the week in 4th.
