Today, many high schools across Greater Boston were informed there were not enough umpires for their games due to state-wide umpire shortage.
Do you really think ABS is worth it at the MLB level if it means non-MLB games won't have officials due to the prospective umpire pool shrinking at an alarming rate?

Today we learned of the passing of local umpire Kevin Harrington. Kevin was more than an umpire, he was what was right with the world and loved the game of baseball just like the rest of us. Umpire, coach, or player, we are all a baseball family. We ask you to please honor and remember local umpire Kevin Harrington, who passed away this morning after a courageous battle with cancer.
Attention: The 400Hitter platform has recently undergone a major upgrade, and we are currently working to integrate the updated system into the league website.
As a result, some stats and features may be temporarily unavailable on certain pages while we complete the transition.
In the meantime, we are also building a brand-new league website that will fully incorporate the new 400Hitter platform, providing a smoother and more modern experience for players and fans.
We appreciate your patience during this process. Stay tuned for more updates! ⚾

The BMBL has grown 37.8% for 2026, adding several teams in our 18+ and 28+ divisions, plus introducing a new 45+ Division and a new Central Mass Division.
Growth is part of baseball, and this off-season was big. After playing last season with 37 teams – the most in New England – the Boston Metro Baseball League will open the 2026 season with at least 51 teams. That's 37.8% growth in a single season.
While many amateur leagues across Greater Boston are facing challenges, we are proud to see momentum within the BMBL.
Expanding Age Divisions
One of the most exciting areas of growth has been within our age divisions.
18+ Division
Our 18+ division welcomed several well-known clubs, including the Al Thomas Athletics and East Boston Knights, both formerly of the Yawkey League. The Yawkey League enjoyed a long and storied history prior to shutting down for next season. We are honored to provide a new home for a handful of its players and teams.
28+ Divisions
In the 28+ MetroWest division, the Medway Reds joined, further enhancing our Rt. 495 presence.
The 28+ Boston division continues to grow as well. The Greater Boston Bandits expanded their organization by adding a 28+ team to complement their existing 18+ club.
New 45+ Division
In addition to our 38+ division, we are proud to introduce a brand-new 45+ division. With the folding of the Boston Amateur Baseball League's 45+ division, six teams have joined the BMBL, including the Cambridge Nine, Quincy Patriots, Scituate Mariners, South Shore Giants, North Shore Chiefs, and Woburn Nationals. These additions ensure that veteran players continue to have a competitive and well-organized place to play. Scott Isaacs will serve as commissioner for both divisions.
Expanding Our Footprint
“Go West, young man,” they say. And we have. All the way to Leominster.
New Central Mass Division
For 2026, we have extended our reach further beyond MetroWest by acquiring the Leominster Baseball League. This division, which has merged into the BMBL, will now operate as our 35+ Central Mass division, with Scott Fuller remaining as commissioner.
This division will feature six teams: the Grays, Vipers, Nationals, Brewers, Giants, and Dodgers. This expansion strengthens our regional presence while creating new competitive opportunities for players across Central Massachusetts.
Looking Ahead
What makes this growth meaningful is not just the numbers, but what it represents: more teams, more players, and more opportunities to play baseball now and as you age.
Thank you to our players and managers for continuing to build something special. We look forward to an outstanding 2026 season.
See you on the diamonds.

We figured this was worthy of an article. Congratulations once again to Orazio Ozzie Azzarello on a fine BMBL career.
Coach Raz Steps Down After 15 Seasons at Senators Helm - Boston Metro Baseball League After 18 seasons as a Somerville Senator, including the last 15 as manager, Orazio
01/29/2026
After 18 seasons leading the Somerville Senators, Orazio “Raz” Azzarello has officially stepped away from the dugout and announced his retirement as Manager.
Raz will continue to serve as the 28+ Commissioner, where his leadership, experience, and love for the game will remain a vital part of our league moving forward.
On behalf of the BMBL, we thank Raz for the time, passion, and heart he poured into this game and this community. His impact — on and off the field — will continue to shape the league for years to come.
