The wildest part of relationships?

You can be desperately trying to be understood…

while your partner is desperately trying to protect themselves from you.

Not because either of you is a bad person.

Because you’re both activated.

And when we’re activated, we don’t always respond to what’s actually happening.

We respond to what our nervous system thinks is happening.

So now:

You pursue → they withdraw.
They withdraw → you pursue harder.
You get louder → they get more defensive.
They get defensive → you feel even more alone.

And both of you leave the interaction thinking:

“See?! They don’t understand me.”

When sometimes the deeper truth is:

“We’re both trying so hard to feel safe that we’re accidentally making each other feel less safe.”

That’s the work.

Not figuring out who gets to be the victim.

Not winning.

Not proving your point until the other person finally agrees.

Learning to recognize the cycle.

Regulate.

Take responsibility for your part.

And find your way back to the same team.

Send this to your person with:

“I think this is what happens to us.” ❤️

Regulation hits different when you know what dysregulation distinctively feels like in your unique body, only then can you reach for the right tools to regulate and come back to zero.

Comment REGULATE below for a free audio guide and playlist I made to do exactly that.

repair isn’t about being right. it’s about being real.

it takes humility to say “i see how that landed on you,” even when your intention was different. it takes accountability to own your part without waiting for the other person to own theirs first. and it takes honest listening — the kind where you’re not just waiting for your turn to explain yourself.

most of us were never taught how to do this. we learned to defend, deflect, or disappear instead. but repair is a skill, not a personality trait. it can be practiced. it can be felt in the body before it’s ever said out loud.

this is core to the ROOTS Method™ — because the goal was never to avoid rupture. it’s to know how to come back from it.

where do you struggle most in repair — humility, accountability, or listening? tell me below 🤍

Someone commented on my last video, “This goes both ways. Women need to do the work too.”

And YES. 👏🏼

I’m not here to villainize men, blame men, or suggest that women are somehow perfect partners.

This work goes both ways.

Both people bring their own wounds, nervous system patterns, communication habits, expectations, and behaviors into a relationship.

Both people have accountability.

But here’s the distinction I think gets lost:

Taking accountability for your part does NOT mean taking responsibility for your partner’s.

You can work on yourself without carrying the entire relationship.

You can have compassion for your partner without excusing unhealthy behavior.

And you can recognize your own patterns while still expecting your partner to work on theirs.

The goal isn’t men vs. women.

It’s two people becoming more self-aware, emotionally responsible, and willing to grow.

That’s the relationship work I care about teaching. 🤍

Because healthy love requires BOTH people to show up.

If your woman keeps saying “you don’t love me” or “you don’t care about me,” don’t immediately defend yourself.

Just listen.

Because underneath those words might be a much more vulnerable message:

“I don’t feel connected to you.”
“I miss you.”
“I don’t feel important to you right now.”
“I need reassurance.”

And no, that doesn’t automatically mean you’re doing something wrong.

It also doesn’t mean you have to agree with the accusation.

But if you immediately respond with,
“Of course I love you. What are you talking about?”
you may accidentally turn a bid for connection into a debate about whether her feelings are valid.

Try:

“I hear you. Help me understand what’s making you feel that way.”

That one question can completely change the conversation.

Because sometimes your partner isn’t asking you to prove that you love her.

She’s asking you to slow down enough to understand how she’s experiencing the relationship.

And women—this goes both ways—your partner isn’t a mind reader either.

If you want something different, learn to communicate the need underneath the criticism instead of expecting them to decode it.

Healthy relationships aren’t about winning the argument.

They’re about getting curious enough to find the real problem underneath it. 🤍

Save this for the next time you hear “you don’t care about me.”

And if you and your partner are ready to actually practice these skills together, comment WORKBOOK and I’ll send you my Couples Somatic Workbook.

And comment REGULATE if you want to get my audio and playlist on how to reconnect back to yourself 🎧💜

Speaking from experience, this is the translation of what your partner means when they say, “you don’t care about me.”
