Murray Academy Feis

To all of our feis registrants, it is with a heavy heart we must announce the cancellation of our Murray Winter Feis. We have worked tirelessly to plan and make this happen, and have looked at every angle possible to run it with even more safety protocols than originally planned, but given the drastic increase of Covid numbers in NH we have come to the difficult, but what we feel is the most responsible decision. In an effort to do the right thing, we are choosing to follow CDC, WHO and White House Coronavirus Task force recommendations for states at our current outbreak level which include avoiding any gatherings with people outside your immediate household. We were hoping to hold the feis prior to a post-holiday surge in January when our Winter feis usually runs, but we were surprised that the spike here started even before Thanksgiving.

We want everyone to know that we understand the disappointment for dancers and their families and we, just as much as everyone else, were really looking forward to welcoming the kids to our feis and giving them a small sense of normalcy. We really wanted to make this happen for everyone's hard working dancers, and hope you can understand our very difficult decision! All entry fees will be refunded by FeisWorx minus a $5.00 CC processing fee (this includes the refund requests before Nov. 29). Please have patience, this process may take about a week. Thank you so much and we hope to see you at our better-than-ever Murray Academy Feis in May. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday season!

It breaks my heart to announce that we have to cancel Catskill Mtn feis for 2020. Unfortunately, even tho we had the blessing of the town council and the local authorities and would have followed all CDC guidelines, someone with an axe to grind decided to tell lies and turn us in. They told the authorities that we were having “thousands” of people from ALL (on the travel ban list also) states for a competition INSIDE. Everything they said about us was wrong but they got the ear of the right person and a “Cease and Desist” letter was delivered. The codes they outlined in the letter didn’t even pertain to us but no one would give us a chance to appeal. For the record, this person doesn’t even know me, Michael or the Farrell school. The letter was delivered directly to the Blackthorne but named us as the offenders. If they had chosen to ask me in person, I would have gladly explained all the precautions we had planned...but they chose cowardice instead of faith. We contacted other local officials, got lawyers involved but time was not our friend this week. During the week prior to the feis we are busy little beavers getting tents set up, building the best stages ever, laying out marley, unpacking trophies, shopping for all the last minute stuff..planning, planning and more planning. I had to cancel a $7000.00 tent order today...that hurt.

I’m sad for your children, we worked so hard to follow the rules and we wanted to give them a little piece of normalcy after these crazy few months.
I’m sad for the parents because I know you wanted to see your kids doing what they love with people they love.
I’m sad for my vendor friends, we’ve all been unemployed since March and I was hoping to give my friends the opportunity to make a few dollars..and reminisce about when times were good and we were self sufficient.
I’m sad for my friends at the Blackthorne..they look forward to us every year...they love watching the kids running around just being kids.
I’m sad for my town...we are a small (but mighty) tourist town and our businesses depend on our summer visitors to help us pay our bills long after the summer is gone.
I’m sad for our feis committee and dance parents...we had a plan and, dammit, it as a good one!
BUT, I am grateful for all my dance friends who offered help, made suggestions, and sent encouraging words...Thank you for believing in us and putting your faith in us....we would not have let you down.
And finally, to the person with the cold black heart, who felt the need to tell lies to get a children’s activity cancelled, I hope you find peace...but I also hope you find a bat in your house and all your friends are too busy to help.
I’ll spend the remainder of the week refunding your entry fees...We’ll get thru this and come out stronger.

[07/20/20]   Dear Parents and Students,

I hope you are all safe and healthy! I am sure most of you are wondering if there is a plan to finish out the summer with or without classes. I have looked into the possibility of using the Whitman church hall for the remainder of the summer! However, before I proceed, I need to know the exact number of students that would be interested in this summer session. Once I receive these numbers, I will touch base with all interested students and fully explain the health and safety guidelines that will be instituted -AND STRICTLY ENFORCED- to ensure everyone’s well-being.

Catskill Mtn Feis

Oh Happy Day! The Catskill Mtn feis is open on Feisweb! We haven’t updated the website yet so it’s still showing the 2019 syllabus... I’m posting the 2020 syllabus here. I have 2 important announcements.. the first one is that we are proudly hosting the James Brennan Music Scholarship. The first place prize is $500.00 and second place is $250.00.... the rules are on page 4 of the syllabus.
The second announcement is that we are honored to host the induction of Patsy McLoughlin into the NAFC Hall of Fame. We’d love to see lots of McLoughlin dancers, past and present, to celebrate the accomplishments of this great Lady☘️💚
When entering the feis on Feisweb, please remember that we are not accepting entry payments until we have the “all clear” from State and Local Government officials☘️💚

Hat’s off to our own Alexa Mehlman—Milton Academy class of 2020! Alexa is an open dancer who has been a member of the Haley School since age 5. In addition to being a dedicated dancer, Alexa is a hardworking student and talented athlete. Graduating cm laude, she has played lacrosse and soccer for many years, and worked as a soccer ref this past year. Accolades aside, one of the most impressive things about Alexa is her genuine character and sweet disposition. She truly is a singular person! Her gentle nature and light, easy manners bring so much positivity to our dance classes. Alexa will be studying forensic chemistry at George Washington University. Best of luck, Alexa!
