We were so well prepared this year and looked forward to the smoothest run tournament possible. The weather had other ideas.
The 2025 4H District 3 Rifle and Pistol Tournament was cut short by rain and lightning. We paused as long as possible and the shooters were willing to endure some arduous conditions but it was just not to be.
Shooting teams from 13 counties signed up for these matches with 142 competitors.
We thank all our friends, new and old, for their patience and cooperation.
We all had some wet weather misery but the cooking crew went above and beyond by providing hot meals despite the troubles.
The scoring crew handled the targets efficiently for the shooting we managed to complete.
Our Senior/Intermediate Rifle Range crew and Pistol Range crew were working hard in tough conditions. The Junior Rifle Range staff faired better.
Enough shooting was completed to determine Seniors who can go forward to the State Indoor Rifle Championships ( yes, an outdoor match can be a qualifier for indoor championships).
After the exodus there was much gear to dry out, guns to oil and more stuff to put away the next day.

Sunday April 6 was a rifle practice session for 6 of our students plan to compete in the 4H District 3 Rifle and Pistol Tournament.
Our Pistol coaches and several students were competing in Amarillo at an indoor pistol tournament.
Juniors shoot rifle in the Prone position in the tournament. Intermediates and Seniors fire from the Prone, Kneeling and Standing positions.
Juniors aim pistols from a seated position with a rest. Intermediates fire with a two hand hold. Seniors use one hand only. All ages fire Slow Fire and Rapid Fire courses.

For a quarter of a century, NWTFS has hosted the 4H District 3 Rifle and Pistol Tournament.
Recent years have seen 150+ competitors with three ranges in use simultaneously. Our cooking crew feeds over 300 people. We score over 600 targets. The event requires about 35 volunteers.
4H members with prior NWTFS training and D3 tournament experience may join our competition practices.
For people who wish to volunteer as range safety personnel (especially 9 to 11 am), lunch crew or other jobs please leave an email, voicemail, etc with our office. Roger Kroes leads this effort.
