In 1943, national media buzzed as it was announced that Lorraine Heinisch had been accredited as an umpire by the National Baseball Congress, and would be the first woman to umpire in the NBC's national tournament.

Lorraine umpired two games in Wichita, leading to national headlines of what a travesty it was to have a female umpire... because with a woman on the field, the players couldn't cuss (no, seriously).

Will Bandel is your 2026 Outstanding Catcher Award winner, and he made his presence felt behind the plate for the Alaska Goldpanners.
Bandel recorded 36 putouts and caught three runners stealing throughout the tournament. A well-deserved honor for one of the tournament’s top catchers.

Levi Risenhoover of Top Prospects Academy and Kyle Walker of the Junction City Brigade Baseball are your 2026 Mike Dean RBI Award winners, finishing the tournament tied with 8 RBIs.
Both came through when their teams needed them, finding ways to bring runs home throughout the tournament.
A shared award for two guys who got the job done.

They weren’t supposed to win. That’s what made it so good.
The 1996 El Dorado Broncos barely made it into the NBC World Series. Then they added five players, and found their rhythm.

They beat an undefeated Tacoma team twice in one night to win their third NBC championship, with Kevin Frederick putting together a tournament to remember. Thirty years later, the story of the 1996 Broncos still stands out as one of the NBC’s best underdog stories.

Chris Re*****on is a great example of that. After a devastating accident, baseball gave him something to fight for: getting back to the field, back in the dugout and back to coaching. His journey earned him the 2026 Eric Pintard Most Inspirational Award, but his impact on the people around him goes far beyond that.
