Had a woman, knock on our door yesterday. We introduced ourselves to each other. She explained she stopped in because she had been a caregiver to her father the past few years and he had recently died. Now, she said, it was her time to take care of herself. I explained a little bit about how we work - private lessons, semi private lessons, no big classes, personal attention every lesson. I gave her our card and she said she'd think about it.
I dont know if I'll hear from her again. But, I LIKED this woman. She knew her seasons - she had a season of caregiving and now the season was one of self-care. I applaud her for pivoting rather quickly. I hope and pray she finds what will work for her in taking care of herself. I would LOVE it if Today Pilates was a fit for her.
Know your season. Pivot when it changes.

One step or one brick at a time.
It started as a dream (after a significant financial disaster) to rebuild our life to work together and teach Pilates.
Step One: Robert continues construction and buys L & S Sheet Metal. While I attend Pilates Teacher Training #1. Robert builds a Pilates springboard - that's it - one board and one roll down bar.
We did not know each step...we took them as we saw them (almost every step was taken in FAITH). There have been many, many small and medium steps since 2015.
But here we are with 2 complete studios under one roof offering Classical Pilates Lessons (mixed with some kettlebells, mace and indian clubs).
Believe in your dream. Take one step...you don't have to know the next...just take the one.

Feet, Feet, Feet.
Stand on them. Reach through them. Connect through them.
Feet, Feet, Feet.
They help you turn on your "seat" - butt muscles.
Feet, Feet, Feet.
They are your foundation.
Feet, Feet, Feet.
Take care of them. Strengthen them. Work those toes.
Feet, Feet, Feet.

One of the beautiful things about Pilates is there is always more. More "juice" to squeeze out of an exercise. Mr. Pilates wasn't about "going through the motions". He wanted you to execute the exercise precisely as the muscles were designed to move - fully body, full breath.
So sometimes, there is a little "teaching" moment before ex*****on so that a client who has probably done 1000's of the hundred still finds deeper work and challenge. Ah, he is connected head to toe - look at that! Transformation happening with each breath.

Pilates exercises definitely have a "look" or a "shape" to them that is distinct. However, when we teach, we aren't looking for a look or a shape, we are searching and seeking for whole body engagement with balanced use of all the muscles (as we are designed). So we can use touch - see Robert's hand encouraging his client for use the muscles their differently for better movement and muscular balance. See me using a snap of my fingers to help this client find the muscular "firing" to roll up smoothly.
No going through the motions. No just "looking" like it's right...we are looking to make YOU more balanced and move more efficiently.
The art and science of experiencing the transforming power of Pilates.
