Tour one of the first Free Black Settlements in the United States right here in Freedom Park on various dates this fall. ✨

Come hear historical facts, information about the land and tour the settlement’s dwellings that are historically accurate of the early 1800s. Registration is not required. Meet at the Free Black Settlement area within the park. Weather dependent. Ages 12+. FREE!

Paddle craft rentals are suspended at the James City County Marina until further notice due to a small craft advisory through Friday, Sept. 25 and significant flooding of the Marina shoreline from the coastal winds pushing water up the James River and into its feeder creeks, streams and rivers. We will update this post once paddle craft rental operations resume. During this time, we will still be offering bike rentals to be used on Jamestown Island and the Virginia Capital Trail.

As a general guideline, check weather apps or websites, or call ahead to the Marina at 757-565-3699 to find out about paddle craft conditions before heading down. The Marina Store is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., as well as 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday until the end of the month. 🌳Join us on October 10 at Veterans Park to plant the very first trees for the ReTree JCC initiative. The ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. near the pollinator garden and will include remarks and the tree plantings. Also, visit with local organizations for native plant information, how to plant a tree, acorn collection and more!🤩
