Meet the Coach Interview

We asked Coach Melissa learn more about their coaching style, goals for the season, and the lessons they hope every player takes away from being part of the team.

Q&A with Coach - Melissa Armstrong- coach pitch

Q: What inspired you to become a coach?
A: My love of softball and watching players grow and develop a passion for the game themselves.

Q: How would you describe your coaching philosophy?
A: Being in coach pitch my philosophy is all about creating a positive, fun, and safe environment to introduce girls to the sport of softball.

Q: What are your main goals for the season?
A: a lot of girls at this age have never played softball before so my main goals are simple. 1) learn the fundamentals of the game. 2) learn how to throw the ball 3) hit the ball off of a coach pitching.

Q: What do you look for in your players?
A: I look at their attitudes, their resilience and how coachable they are.

Q: How do you help players handle challenges or setbacks?
A: Explaining that a game is more than one play or one at bat. You have teammates to rely on.

Q: What is one lesson you hope your players remember beyond the season?
A: You play how you practice.

Q: What message would you like to share with players, families, and fans?
A: Thank you for investing in your daughters' future by starting them in sports at a young age. The skills and life lessons they begin to learn here will carry them forward in the future.

With School starting this week, we know that your players are going to be exhausted. Make sure they have fuel in their tanks and getting plenty of rest when they can!

🗓 Mark your calendars! In just a few short weeks the 1st Fall Ball game of the season will be 9/5. Once schedules are completed, they will be distributed to the teams but I be posting the schedules here as well. 🍂🍁🥎

First practice for a couple of the teams last night! So awesome to see all the smiling faces, hearing the players get right back into the "Swing"😉 of things! One of our girls even told me "as hot as it is, I'm back and it feels like I'm home!" Man that felt good to hear! That was from a 10 yr old by the way! Things like that make us happy that you and your player’s have chosen WCGSL!
