Rick Sanders changed American wrestling forever. The first American to win a Freestyle World Championship, Sanders was a two-time Olympic silver medalist whose creative "funk" style inspired generations of wrestlers. His 103–2 collegiate record and unmatched achievement of earning Outstanding Wrestler honors at the NAIA, NCAA Division II, and NCAA Division I Championships remain unmatched. Tragically, Sanders passed away at just 27 years old, but his influence on wrestling continues to live on.
