A HUGE thank you to Angie Reynolds for her incredible support of our team this season! 🐾❤️

Angie is sponsoring not one, but TWO of our boys — Lieutenant and Louis — AND the Eagle Island checkpoint! We are so grateful for your generosity and support of Sunset Chasers Kennel.

These two boys will be sure to impress you this season! Lieutenant is one of our youngsters coming up through the team, while Louis continues to show us what he’s made of. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish! 🐕

Checkpoint sponsorships are also a huge part of getting our team down the trail. They help support the crucial supplies we send ahead to checkpoints — about 95% of which is dog food to fuel these incredible athletes as they can burn around 10,000 calories per dog, per day while racing!

🐾 Welcome to the pack, Dawn & Dusk!

Meet the two newest additions to Sunset Chasers Kennel! Dawn and Dusk are just two weeks younger than our Card Game litter and have already assimilated so well into the pack.

These pups are related to the card game litter through Red Dog from Eddie Burke Jr.!

They’re settling right in, making new friends, and learning the ropes. We’re excited to watch these two grow, develop, and see what their futures hold!

A new chapter begins!

We’re excited to share that we have officially started our own kennel — Sunset Chasers Kennel!

With this new adventure, we’ve updated our page name to reflect our new kennel name. While the name may be new, you’ll still find the same dogs, mushing adventures, training updates, races, and life on the trail right here.

We would also like to give a very special thank you to Vern Halter and Susan Whiton for their incredible support, mentorship, and dedication over the past several years. They have shared so much of their knowledge and experience with us, trusted us with their dogs, and helped make this journey possible. We truly would not be where we are today without them!❤️

We’re incredibly excited for this next chapter.

Today was a bittersweet day...🐾

Today was Kafka’s last time in harness. After an incredible career, he is officially retiring and heading to an amazing family on the East Coast—and the best part is that he’ll be joining his brother Twain! ❤️ I know he is going to have the retirement life he deserves.

Kafka has been such a huge part of my journey. He was on every race team of mine, including all of my qualifying races and my 2026 Iditarod team. He is one heck of a leader, and I’m incredibly grateful for every mile we’ve traveled together.

Today made things feel especially full circle. Kafka’s son AC/DC ran in lead alongside him for his final run. Watching them up front together was pretty special. Kafka may be hanging up his harness, but he’s passing the torch on to his sons and the next generation. 🔥

Thank you for everything, Kafka. For every mile, every trail, and every time you confidently led us forward. Now it’s time to enjoy retirement with Twain. You’ve earned it, buddy. 🐾

Some good progress was made at Sunset Chasers Kennel this weekend! 🐾🔨

It feels like the to-do list never ends, but we checked quite a few things off:
🔹 Trench dug and poles placed for lights in the dog yard
🔹 Trail work
🔹 Foundation issues worked on
🔹 Vents installed
🔹 Fuel tank delivered
🔹 Electrical work done
🔹 Insulation done.....kind of!
🔹 Exterior flashing installed

Next up… the plumber! 🚰

We were also incredibly thankful to have some extra hands this weekend. Abby and Janice came out Sunday and helped us tackle projects, and Rich joined us Monday. Having friends willing to give up their time to help us means more than they know. ❤️

We are TIRED, but we’re learning a lot through this whole process and slowly watching Sunset Chasers Kennel come together. One project at a time! 🐕🛷

Yesterday, we received a wonderful package from our Amazon Wishlist filled with hand and foot warmers, trash bags, and dog bowls— all things we can use!!! 🐾❤️

Unfortunately, there wasn’t a packing slip included, so we don’t know who to thank personally. If these goodies were from you, please know how incredibly grateful we are! 🙏
