Despite some lingering soreness, Jonathan Brooks is reportedly working on the side. Coach Dave Canales remained tight-lipped about specifics, but some believe this is a strategic rest period after an intense preseason. The team is taking a cautious approach.

While not an All-Pro, Darren Waller brings a unique dimension to our offense. On defense, Bobby Brown III, Cam Jackson, and Derrick Brown form a strong line. It's great to see players like Cam Jackson contribute.
The focus this year is clear: win a playoff game. Individual stats like 1,000 yards are secondary to whatever helps the team achieve that milestone. This player's dedication and the culture being built by Dan Morgan are truly impressive.

Bryce Young took a major step forward in 2025, setting career highs across the board with 3,011 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and an 87.8 passer rating while leading the Panthers to an 8-9 record and an NFC South title.
Highlights included breaking the franchise single-game passing record with 448 yards against Atlanta and engineering multiple game-winning drives.
Entering this season, the expectations are all about taking that next leap into consistent ex*****on. With Dave Canales' system clicking, a healthy supporting cast, and the experience of a playoff run under his belt, the goal is to cut down on the early-game lulls, build on those explosive late-season highs, and cement himself as the undisputed franchise leader.

Week 1 Update:
Jonathan Brooks missing a few practices this week due to some general soreness shouldn't trigger any panic alarms. Let's call this what it is: smart, late-stage training camp management. Dave Canales already chimed in expressing full optimism that Brooks will be ready to roll for Week 1, and honestly, a little extra caution right before the real hits start flying is just part of the modern protocol.
Coming off a grueling summer schedule, giving a key piece of the backfield some calculated maintenance days keeps the legs fresh and explosive for opening kickoff. Trust the process here—the coaching staff knows how to manage the load, and Brooks is right on track to be out there when it counts.

Head coach Dave Canales met with reporters today, touching on the running back rotation, Darren Waller's return to full practice, and the team's preparation for Week 1
Asked about AJ Dillon's increased reps with the first team, Canales was direct about the reasoning: "You need all your backs. You need them all." He pointed to Trevor Etienne working his way back and practice squad running back Trey Tyus as the depth supporting that room.
Canales also gave an update on Darren Waller, who took part in full team drills for the first time after being held back Monday. According to Canales, Waller got real targets, came down with a couple of catches, and moved well for a player his size — a positive sign as he continues building toward a full workload.
On the topic of managing a running back room with a notable injury history, Canales kept his answer simple: "You don't really worry about it. You just go with what we have."
With Chicago now the focus, Canales said the team has shifted into scout-team work and situational periods this week — two-minute drills, end-of-game scenarios, and short-yardage and field goal units among them.
He also credited Tetairoa McMillan's offseason strength gains for showing up on tape, saying the receiver has been "rugged to the ball" at the line of scrimmage.
Reflecting on his adjustment to no longer calling plays, Canales described a role that's let him engage more directly with players in real time: "It just frees me up to connect with the guys immediately... I get to see something live happen and be able to talk to a guy."
Closing on running back Jonathon Brooks, who did not practice today, Canales struck an optimistic tone: "I'm very optimistic he'll be available for week one."
The Panthers continue training camp this week as they prepare to open the regular season against the Chicago Bears.
Dan Morgan's relationship with Tyrell Dotson, stemming from their time in Buffalo, has brought Dotson to the Panthers' practice squad. This move highlights the Panthers' active use of their practice squad, offering Dotson a clear path to potentially work his way up the roster.
Speculation surrounds Haynes King's hamstring injury and the team's decision to potentially limit available game tape. Could this impact roster moves like waivers?
Dan Morgan and Dave Canales value roster flexibility, opting to keep Haynes King rather than expose him to waivers. This signals a long-term development approach for the young quarterback.
With the team carrying five tight ends, the biggest question for Week 1 is Darren Waller's availability. While he's not expected to go on IR, ramp-up time could lead to him missing games. This is a storyline to watch closely as the season approaches.
