CPSC issues another warning over Ridstar e-bikes

WASHINGTON (BRAIN) — The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued its second warning in the past three months about some Ridstar e-bikes, this one concerning the front wheel detaching without warning.
Thursday's warning involves the Ridstar Q20 and Q20 Lite models, with the CPSC saying owners should "stop using the e-bikes immediately and dispose of them." The CPSC said it is aware of 32 reports of the front wheel detaching, including 31 reports of injuries such as concussions, broken bones, cuts, scrapes, and bruises.
In March, the CPSC issued a warning about the Q20 and the Q20 Pro models' batteries, which it said the wires can ignite. In both warnings, the manufacturer, Huizhou Xingqishi Sporting Goods Co. Ltd. of China, has been unresponsive to requests for information about these products or a recall, according to the CPSC.
The Q20 and Q20 Lite e-bikes are black, and Ridstar is printed on the battery. The model number Q20 or Q20 Lite is printed on the purchase receipt. The e-bikes were sold on AliExpress.us, Amazon.com, Ridstar.net and Walmart.com.
The CPSC advises against throwing the lithium-ion battery or device in the trash, the general recycling stream (street-level or curbside recycling bins) or used-battery recycling boxes at retail and home improvement stores. Defective lithium-ion batteries must be disposed of differently than other batteries because they present a greater risk of fire, the CPSC said. Municipal household hazardous waste collection centers might accept this lithium-ion battery or device for disposal. Contact your municipality for further guidance.
