There is a reason any sailor should properly prepare for the worst. A northern transatlantic crossing can be challenging on its best day & sporty sea conditions are to be expected.

Photo #1: Hoving to is sometimes necessary to wait for stalled heavy weather to move away. While sitting in calm seas for 24 hrs, we ran the generator, made water, and washed some clothes!

Photo Series: When there’s nowhere to hide, picking the area of least wind & smallest sea state can make the ride safer and more tolerable. Two days prior to being confronted with developing & converging Low pressure systems, the decision was made to go toward one developing Low and ride with it. Max conditions experienced were very manageable 25-35 kt winds and a 3-5 m swell.

This catamaran delivery captain is delivering a Tayana 48 monohull from the Chesapeake to the British Virgin Islands!

After a long haul from Chesapeake Bay to Galveston Bay, we’re sitting out weather before hopping to our final destination tomorrow. Cravings for an upcoming movie night had us braving a 23F degree walk to the store. Feeling like college students again!
