What word should we add to volume 2??

The best friendships are camp friendships. Whether it’s learning to ride horses together for the first time, being bunk mates or simply being on the same team together, camp friendships are built from sisterhood and always last a lifetime.

We are overjoyed to introduce our October Alumni spotlight and Archery queen herself, Catherine Patridge! We let Catherine share in her own words below how learning archery at camp inspired her to join the Junior Olympic Archery Program and hope it inspires many more girls to come. 🏹

“Before the tournements or the daily practices or even my own bow, I started archery at Camp Riva Lake. During my first junior year I became very focused on working on my achievement awards, and while working on my level 3 for archery I got close with the counselor who led the activity, Scout Yorkley. During the final week of camp, she selected me and a handful of other juniors to compete in the annual archery competition, which I placed second in. From there I was hooked, so as soon as I got home I asked my dad if I could start doing lessons, so that next year I could win the entire competition.

Between my own competitiveness and the want to support the Olympian team, I was eager to join a team that fall. This led me to join a junior Olympic archery program (or JOAD program for short) near my home back in California. The rest is history! Now whenever I pick up my bow, whether it’s at nationals, an international competition or at a local event, I get to hold a piece of camp with me, regardless of how far away I am from that special place in Tennessee!”

In a time when children are increasingly glued to screens, Camp Riva-Lake stands as a rare refuge—a place to connect with nature, develop resilience, and build lifelong friendships. Now, a wide community of alumni and supporters is stepping forward to take action, ensuring that the camp will continue to serve future generations.

We invite everyone who values the power of outdoor experiences to join us. By forming a coalition of alumni and community members, we are creating a funding group that will purchase the land and safeguard its future. Through this effort, we aim to keep the camp a vibrant, screen-free sanctuary for girls to grow, thrive, and belong.

To support this campaign, visit our secure funding page at the Zeffy link in our bio.

Every contribution helps us act quickly and keep this legacy alive. Together, we can ensure Camp Riva-Lake stays a beacon of connection, growth, and adventure for another 100 years.
