🐺🩵🩶

This weekend was another reminder of why we do this and that how we do this is of utmost importance. One of the things I love most about sports and competition is I believe it both builds and at times reveals character. I want to take a moment to thank and acknowledge every athlete, coach, parent, sibling, grandparent and beyond that is part of this program we started a year ago.

The world of youth sports gets noisy. There are records, rankings, trophies, opinions, social media and plenty of distractions which try to trip us up along the way. Every day, we’re faced with opportunities to get caught up in the noise or to rise above it. Thankfully with this group we have each other to lean on.

When I look at the Stonewall Wolfpack teams, I see young athletes who play a game with grit and respect.

I see teammates who celebrate each other, families who support one another and coaches teaching kids that character matters.

The general nature of fandom and youth sports culture often encourages the picking of sides, comparison, criticism and rivalry.

Yesterday, after a hard-fought game against another team, our girls watched those same athletes experience a special moment in the gym when one of their players hit a clutch buzzer be**er to win a critical game. It was a special moment to watch unfold.

What got me though, was that without hesitation, after the shot was made and the buzzer sounded several Wolfpack players rushed over to celebrate with them.

Not because they were teammates. Not because they were friends. Not because it benefited them or because they were rooting against the other team. Simply because they recognized a great moment and wanted to share in another young athlete’s success.

Wow. What a moment. I wish I had captured it with a picture but I was too busy taking it all in.

That tells me far more about who they are and the culture we’ve built than any scoreboard ever could.

The wins are fun, and I am proud of what these girls accomplish on the court. Zero doubt the hard work they put in during the week reveals itself on the weekend. But what makes me most proud is sitting back and watching the way they carry themselves, the relationships they’re building and the culture our families are creating together.

I know it’s cliche, but it’s an honest reflection and I want to take another moment to say that I’m incredibly humbled and grateful to be part of this journey with these athletes and their families.

This is important.

🐺 Big Weekend for the Wolfpack 🐺

For the first time in our startup program's history, the Stonewall Wolfpack is rolling into the YFB Summer Championship with both 10U and 11U teams competing.

Same Standard. Same Mindset. Two Teams. One Pack.

These athletes have put in the work. Now it’s time to go test it.

Harrisonburg, VA — we’re coming.

Tough. Unselfish. Relentless.

Unbelievable weekend of basketball for these girls. They played tough team basketball and never backed down against much bigger teams playing a level of physical basketball we honestly hadn’t seen before. The Wolfpack made some noise and drew a lot of attention battling through pool and bracket play.

We came up short in the Virginia AAU State Championship game, but every player should be proud of the way they represented themselves, their families, our program and our region all weekend long. No fear. No excuses. Just toughness, heart, hustle and teamwork.

One of the coolest moments of the weekend came after the championship game when I was told Boo Williams stopped by to watch the Wolfpack and wanted to chat. He was so impressed with our team he invited us to the AAU National Championship Tournament, an opportunity that usually only goes to teams that win and advance at this level.

Whether we can make that trip happen or not, the invitation alone says a lot about these young athletes, the way they compete, and the culture surrounding this program.

Proud of this team. Proud of the way they fight for each other. Proud of our Wolfpack families.
