🐴 **Overgrown Donkey Hoof — Before & After!**

This little guy was getting regular trims, but I don't think the farrier quite knew what to do with him. This type of distortion can be very tricky. It's likely this donkey foundered at some point. His heels were also severely twisted underneath, shifting the hoof angles & creating tension on his joints.

With hoof distortions this severe, I’m usually slow and conservative with my corrections. Especially if there's internal rotation. Every hoof has to be read individually, and I make careful decisions as I trim.

In his case, his hoof was *begging* for a significant correction—and thankfully, he was able to handle it beautifully all at once. ❤️

**How do I know when a hoof is ready for at much correction?**
That’s honestly a difficult thing to explain. A big part of it is reading the hoof- the sole, understanding the structures underneath & inside, and paying attention to how the hoof responds as you trim. It’s something that comes with a lot of hoof experience and learning to “read” what the hoof is telling you.

And the best part? **He was definitely a lot happier when I was finished.** 🥰

Severe hoof distortion doesn’t happen overnight, and correcting it isn’t always a simple process. Every hoof has its own story—and my job is to listen to it. 🐴❤️
