This is Coach Xander, and this is a real testament on what Jiu-Jitsu has done for him! Three years later he is a totally different kid and in a good way!

At just 11, he’s gained so much more than medals—he’s learned discipline, focus, and resilience. Jiu-Jitsu has built his confidence on and off the mats and taught him how to set goals, work hard, and push through challenges.

One of the greatest gifts this sport has given him is the incredible community around him—especially the positive role models who guide, encourage, and believe in him. The professors and teammates have shown him what it means to work hard, stay humble, and lead with respect.

Luta Livre is a Brazilian style of no-gi submission wrestling.
It developed around the same time as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but focuses on grappling without the gi — takedowns, pins, and lots of leg locks and submissions.

Think of it as Brazil’s version of no-gi grappling / submission wrestling with its own history and techniques.
It blends wrestling-style control with Jiu-Jitsu-style submissions.

We were honored to welcome Renzo Gracie, Guto Vicente, and Rodrigo Gracie Jr. for an incredible seminar. Their presence brought not only world-class technique, but also the deep spirit and history of Jiu-Jitsu.

This special event was organized and led by Professor Jefferson Viana, whose lifelong dedication to the art continues to shape our community. Professor Jefferson is proudly affiliated with Master Renzo Gracie, and together—with Rodrigo Gracie Jr.—they are working to bring more legendary figures to Colorado. Their goal is to give Heavy Metal BJJ students the opportunity to experience the true roots of Jiu-Jitsu firsthand.
