Rules can control behavior when an adult is nearby.

But eventually, Mom leaves the room.

The teacher turns around.

The instructor starts helping another student.

And that's when character takes over.

Today’s issue is about one of the most important things we can help children develop:

Doing the right thing even when nobody is watching.

Not because they'll get a reward.

Not because they're afraid of getting caught.

But because they've learned that it's simply the right thing to do.

Our goal isn't to raise perfect children.

It's to help raise young people we can eventually say something much more important about:

“I trust them when I'm not there.”
