Our 4th day with Matt and team Likhulu Safaris was an incredible experience. We woke up with the plan to chase Zebras and came across a beautiful pack of Impalas. Matt told me there was a mature bull hanging out with them so we began stalking the group. After a little bit of walking I was able to get on the sticks and pull the trigger! This shot reminded me of hunting White Tail in the States. He was in some good cover and had to wait on the shot to open up between trees and bushes. I pulled the trigger, watched him jump and heard the crash of sticks where he went down. What a beautiful animal he was.

After lunch and a celebratory nap, we started back in on the Zebras. Still no luck and I was beginning to think it was not going to happen. We finished off the night with something near and dear to me. A beautiful Duck hole. I was able to harvest a few Ducks which was huge for me. Shooting Ducks on another continent was different but normal at the same time. It was very cool to watch the birds work and hear their calls. This was one day of hunting I will hold near and dear to me.

Our third day in Africa was a day that Henry Sells and I will never forget.

We started the morning off with Henry knocking down a mature SpringBuck. These animals have one of the prettiest color patterns on them. We took a very short break and went to chase a Zebra for myself.

On the way to the area the trackers believed the Zebras to be staying we saw a magnificent old bull of a Blue Wildebeest. After a short stalk (right past some Cape Buffalo) Henry made an exceptional shot and was able to take the big old bull down!

I would be lying to you if I told you I kept an eye on the Wildebeest. I was watching the very interested Cape Buffalo. I didn’t know if we were all going to have to run or not. Needless to say they didn’t bother us and I got to see my brother harvest an animal that he had always dreamed of.

After lunch and celebration we took time the rest of the afternoon chasing the ghostly Zebras with no success. All and all getting to walk around in God’s creation chasing animals made a very successful and tiring day.

The second day in Africa we spent the morning chasing the illustrious Zebra with no success. After a very crucial lunch meal and nap, we saw a nice group of Spring Bucks.

Long story short I pulled the trigger and had a clean miss on a beautiful Spring Buck(it was really windy😉) Shortly after we had a nice group of Blesbucks move through and I knew I could not miss again. They slid to the side of us and I was able to connect with a mature male.

This was my first animal down in Africa and Henry and I decided to celebrate in the field as the sun went down!

It was a fantastic way to end the day after getting skunked with Zebra and a being a poor shot when it came to Springbucks!

The first day in South Africa we were greeted with hospitality and beautiful views.

Matt took us out to the targets and we had the opportunity to put some lead on paper. Shooting from the bench was easy but when the sticks came out it added a completely different element to pulling the trigger.

We went over our wish list of animals and spoke of ideas Henry and I had. He then showed us how the “walk and stalk” style of hunting would play out. It was not as easy as I thought it would be!

After some target practice and a fantastic lunch we immediately got to work chasing the animals on our list. I had mentioned a Zebra was very high on my priority list. Little did I know how hard it would be to stalk one and even then get the chance to pull the trigger.

After a decent amount of chasing and an unsuccessful evening hunt we came back to the first of many fantastic meals prepared by the fire!

The end of our first day we had seen at-least 20 different species of beautiful animals and gotten somewhat close to a Zebra I was chasing.

This past week I got to journey into an experience of a lifetime with my brother Henry Sells

The destination was the Free State in South Africa. A trip planned for my Grandpa, Henry and I. My Grandpa didn’t go but sent us and his best wishes to us on the Safari. I had been in contact with Matt the owner of Likhulu Safaris for a while and what he offered us did not disappoint. This trip was something my papa always wanted to do.

Follow along as I post pictures and a few video clips of the remote Free State, Africa with what I believe to be the best Safari Outfitters in the Business.
