BREAKING: Authorities are searching for an escaped inmate after 35-year-old Raymond Warren escaped Friday morning from the Forsyth Correctional Center in Winston-Salem.

According to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, Warren is serving a five-year sentence for larceny convictions and has a projected release date in 2028.

Warren is described as a white male, 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds, with multiple tattoos on his neck and face.

The circumstances surrounding the escape remain under investigation. Anyone who sees Warren or has information about his whereabouts is urged not to approach him and to call 911 immediately or contact the Forsyth Correctional Center at 336-896-7041.

UPDATE: Escaped inmate Raymond Warren has been captured.

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction announced Warren was taken into custody Friday afternoon after he escaped from the Forsyth Correctional Center in Winston-Salem earlier in the day.

According to officials, Warren was located around 3:15 p.m. after he knocked on the door of a residence approximately one mile from the correctional facility. He was taken into custody without incident.

Warren was serving a five-year sentence for larceny convictions. State officials said he will be transferred to Central Prison in Raleigh, and the circumstances surrounding the escape remain under investigation.

Walkertown NC – The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) is investigating an early-morning
homicide.

At approximately 5:55 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026, FCSO deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 4700 block of New Walkertown Road to assist agency EMS. Upon arrival, they
discovered one person and a canine suffering from gunshot wounds. The 16-year-old juvenile and his pet canine had been shot and both succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. FCSO Investigative Services Division has assumed the investigation of this homicide. It is an open and ongoing investigation.

When a 16-year-old child and his pet can be gunned down in the quiet of the morning hours, it causes me to question our sense of morality and brings true anguish. Make no mistake about it, there is a monster among us, and the FCSO will use all available resources to ensure this monster is captured.”

Sending our condolences to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of one of our own, Deputy Kaleb Mitchell, a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Transitioned while serving and protecting this morning, March 7th, 2026, in a motor vehicle accident. We ask for prayers from the community for his family, as well as The FCSO family. As more information becomes available, we will share it at such time.

Later today, we will have a memorial in front of the Sheriff's Office, located at 301 N. Church St. The community is welcome and encouraged to pay their respects.
