We've studied the apps, consulted Brian Slocum - pound for pound the best local weather guy in the biz - and decided to err on the side of caution to avoid thunderstorms.
We know it's weird to be prudent but ... lawyers.

Still, out of an abundance of caution, tired legs and Charlie not being available for vocal entertainment, the Committee has decided with heavy hearts but clear minds ... to scrub tonights Wise Man Brewing Salem Lake ride.
Same Bat Time next week, kids.

If you’re looking for a last minute something to do with yourself this weekend, are perpetually 12, let your road bike sleep indoors,, have been called a “hammerhead,”, enjoy a challenge, have more than a passing familiarity with the Marquis de Sade or simply like helping kids - or some combination as multiple things can be true at once - have we got a proposition for you.
At 8 p.m. this evening (today, Friday and yeah it’s May already) jump into the 2026 Camel City Crusher.
It shoves off from the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds more or less on time and follows a simple format: ride as many standard 20-mile laps as chalked off by the 0530 group as you can stand before 8 a.m. Saturday or turn as many( or few) ½-mile loops around the Fairgrounds race course under the lights as you’d care to attempt at whatever speed you need, Goose.
100 percent of the entry fee goes to support the local Velocious youth cycling team. Think of it as roughly akin to buying a boatload of candy bars to support Little League baseball but one better: young folks get exposed to cycling (and quality coaching) at an early age.
And unlike traditional stick-and-ball endeavors, they’ll be involved with a sport they can practice for a lifetime.
(We don’t count golf as a sport. That’s an activity; anything you can do while burning a dart or drinking beer is an activity. John Daly, bless his heart, is no athlete).
And if you’ve already bought tickets for the Devil Wears Prada 2 tonight, come out Saturday morning at 8 a.m. for the Breakfast Lap, the same 20 mile standard lap as the overnighters.
Except that the motorcycle cops will provide an es**rt.

Fairgrounds race is cancelled for tonight!

Now that we have your attention ....
Spring sprang (sprung?) Sunday with the blessed addition of our extra hour of daylight.
Because this is North Carolina in spring, the temperature is expected to roll past 80 degrees today and because this is a Wednesday, the Wise Man Brewing Salem Lake ride will have a soft opening tonight.
As near to 6 p.m. as we can, a rollout for the standard route.
Added bonus: It's Matt's birthday. We think he's 38.
Who wouldn't want to spend their birthday with a Wise Man Brewing cold one on a ride with Charlie?
And remember, as Charlie learned the hard way last year, if nature calls, dismount fully.
Shoulder surgery isn't much fun.
