Front hooks of your topwater lures getting snagged on your leader? Here are two tips to help prevent it!

1ļøāƒ£ Use heavier leader line - Heavier leader wonā€™t sink as fast so itā€™s less likely to drop down and get hooked. Plus, fish that are going after topwater lures arenā€™t likely going to be spooked by heavier line.

2ļøāƒ£ Use a snug knot - We love a loop knot but it can definitely cause your hooks to get snagged on your leader. If you donā€™t want to upsize your leader, this would be the next option to try.

Fall is great for topwater, so get out there and start catching!!

What do lures look like from a fishā€™s point of view?

We see them from the top down, against the bottom. But a fish sees them from below, looking up. Different colors are going to stand out or blend in more depending on the lure color, water color and clarity, and sky.

Now obviously, we donā€™t know exactly what a fish sees, but this can definitely help us understand a little more about how visible lures are.

Just something else to consider on your next trip!

How much braid does a 3000 size reel actually hold?

Luke has two new Otis 3000 reels here, one loaded with 20 lb braid and the other loaded with 15 lb to see exactly how much line fits on the spool.

Itā€™s a lot of line and were pretty sure no redfish or snook is going to pull this much line out when fighting against drag. So thereā€™s really no reason to use a bigger reel for inshore fishing.

Why Bigger Plugs Shine During the Fall!!

WHEN fish are aggressively feeding, hard plugs offer a few major advantages.

1ļøāƒ£ They can cast a LONG way.
2ļøāƒ£ They allow you to cover water quickly.
3ļøāƒ£ A larger plug with single inline hooks can help filter out some of the smaller fish.

The Skinny Lipper XL goes further and can cover more water. Plus, the built-in rattle adds sound while the erratic movement mimics vulnerable bait.

However, this isnā€™t an all-day lure. Once the sun gets high and the bite slows down, donā€™t force it. Slow down and switch to a quieter soft plastic presentation. That ability to recognize when the feeding window changes is much more important than blindly sticking with one lure all day.
