501C3 What are some of the overarching goals of youth sports?

The two most obvious are to teach players the fundamentals of their given sport and to have a good time while doing it. (Winning is obviously a goal, but we’re looking at the bigger picture.) But being involved in a youth sports organization can teach players about a lot more than just how to swing a bat or dribble a basketball. There are a lot of life lessons to be learned from youth sports as we

ll. Here are 3 important lessons athletes can learn from participating in youth sports that they will carry with them throughout their lives. Playing as team no matter how you feel about each other. Even if you don’t like your teammates, you still have to work together on the field. The same holds true through the rest of your life. Whether it be a school project or business meeting, you’re going to have to work with people you don’t like, but you still have to get the job done. Being involved in youth sports teaches you that even if you don’t like someone personally, they are a critical component of your team. If you lose, lose with dignity. Every single athlete has to lose at least once in their career (probably more than once, a lot more). Learning how to behave after losing is just as important as learning how to be a good winner. Can you look your opponent in the eye, shake their hand and congratulate them on a game well played? Or do you start assigning blame on everyone, claiming they are the reason you lost. Youth sports organizations teach players how to lose and win with grace. Practice time, is where you get better. You get out of life what you put in it. Every experience is yours for the shaping but only if you are willing to put in the time and effort to make the most of it. Nothing is going to be handed to you on silver platter; you have to earn it. Youth athletes learn early on that if they don’t show up to practices then you lose valuable training time to get better. Dedication and commitment are what’s it’s all about. You don’t have to be the most talented player on the field, but you can do your best to be the most determined.
