Woodstock Academy Tuesday 9/22 AM athletic announcements

The boys soccer team made it three straight in the win column as the Centaurs outlasted Ledyard last night under the lights on the road, 3-2. Brayden de Oliveira got the game winner on a header off an assist from Matt Johndrow late in the second half. Pedro Da Silva scored the first two goals for the Centaurs who are back at the .500 mark, 3-3, for the season.

Go online today and vote for Lucas Hecker for Eastern Connecticut Conference boys Athlete of the Week. Hecker finished first overall for the Centaurs in last week’s season-opening meet against Norwich Free Academy, Stonington and Waterford. Just go to https://www.eccathletics.org/ and cast your ballot today.

Speaking of the cross-country teams, they are both in action today beginning at 4 p.m. at Wheeler High School in North Stonington. In addition to the Centaurs and Lions, Ledyard, Tourtellotte and Windham will also compete in the five-team meet.

The girls volleyball team plays its first of three matches in three days. The Centaurs host East Lyme at the Alumni Fieldhouse at 5:30 p.m.

Woodstock Academy Monday 9/21 AM athletic announcements

The Prep 1 soccer team finished up its stay at the Westtown School in West Chester, PA. with a 1-1 tie with Western Reserve Academy yesterday. Richard Sarpong had the only goal for the Centaurs as his header hit off the crossbar and fell into the goal.

The Prep 2 soccer team also had to settle for a similar 1-1 tie against FC Florida in their only outing of the weekend. Jaehee Kim scored the goal for the Centaurs.

The boys high school soccer team is the only one on the field on this Monday as the Centaurs go under the lights for a game at Ledyard at 6 p.m.

Woodstock Academy Sunday 9/20 AM athletic announcements

Two wins in a row for the boys soccer team as the Centaurs got goals from Aiden Sanchez and Lochlan Curran in the first 10 minutes of the contest yesterday at the Bentley Athletic Complex and rolled to a 3-1 victory over New London. Matt Johndrow added a second-half goal off an assist from Curran. The Centaurs are now 2-3 on the year.

The Prep 1 soccer team made it two straight in the win column with a 3-1 victory of its own over Andrews Osborne Academy at Westtown School in West, Chester, PA. Jeston Addy, Richard Sarpong and Haesung Kim scored for the Centaurs in the Prep Premier League match with Addy and Arthur Masson getting assists. The Centaurs are back on the field this morning in West Chester to play Western Reserve Academy at 10 a.m.

The football team was on the wrong side of a 42-20 score against Bristol Central yesterday at the Bentley Athletic Complex. The Centaurs pulled within a touchdown with 13 seconds left in the first half when quarterback Eli Poh (27-for-40 passing, 232 yards) found Griffen Bloom (five catches, 62 yards) for a 4-yard touchdown. But the Rams took the ensuing kickoff 80 yards to take a 27-14 lead into halftime and added another score on an eight-minute possession to open the second half. Bloom reeled in a pair of touchdown passes from Poh who also hit Elijah Laprade with a 50-yard touchdown pass.

Woodstock Academy Saturday 9/19 AM athletic announcements

Five different players scored for the girls soccer team yesterday as it rolled to a 5-0 victory at Ledyard to improve to 2-1-1 on the season. Lily Gregorzek got things started with a first half goal for the Centaurs. Freshmen Cameron Bennett and Avery Dumas both tallied in the second half as did Kaitlyn Teal and Harper Simoneau. Bennett, Dumas and Lilah Ledogar all added assists in the win.

The girls volleyball team followed its script thus far this season as the Centaurs won the first set against Newtown, 28-26, at the Alumni Fieldhouse last night. Unfortunately, the Nighthawks took the next three, 25-15, 25-19, and 25-21 to go home with the 3-1 victory. Kennedy McCooey had six kills and 14 digs for the Centaurs, Phoebe Houston had 18 assists and Maggie Beams finished with 15 service points including three aces.

Going to be a busy day at the Bentley Athletic Complex today as the boys soccer team, looking for its second consecutive victory, gets things started with a match against New London on the grass at 10:30 a.m.

The football team looks for its second straight victory as it hosts Bristol Central in a non-league game at 12:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Woodstock Academy Live which is available on the Woodstock Academy YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj_eg0mvFh4 and on the Woodstock Academy website https://www.woodstockacademy.org/athletics/live .

The prep soccer teams are on the road this weekend in West Chester, PA. at the Westtown School. The Prep 1 team has a Prep Premier League match against Andrews Osborne Academy at noon today. The Prep 2 Centaurs are on the field early this morning as the Centaurs play FC Florida at 8:30 a.m.

Woodstock Academy Friday 9/18 AM athletic announcements

The girls soccer team travels south to Ledyard to face the Colonels in a 4:15 p.m. match today. The Centaurs sport a 1-1-1 record thus far this season.

The girls volleyball team is back on the home floor tonight as it hosts Newtown at 5:30 p.m. in a non-league match.

The Prep 2 soccer team slipped to 1-1 on the season on Wednesday as the Centaurs were upended by St. George’s School, 3-2, on the Kelly Field on South Campus. Pape Dabo and Yuki Kato had the goals for the Centaurs and Huidam Jeon had an assist.
