Think strength training will slow down your distance running?

Not if it's programmed right. Runners don't need explosive, low-rep lifts, they need higher rep ranges that build the endurance in their hips, adductors, and calves to hold up over miles.

Are you a distance runner who overlooks strength training?

Strength training should supplement your distance running, not take away from it. Twice a week, 20–30 minutes of focused strength training can help reduce injury risk and improve overall performance. Focus on the hips, quads, adductors, and calves to help your running.

Want to improve your lower-body strength and control?

Try combining a forward lunge with a reverse lunge. Moving in both directions challenges your ability to control each position. Keep the movement smooth and controlled from start to finish.

Want to challenge your core and back with rotation?

Set up in a tabletop position and rotate away from your anchor while keeping your shoulder down. Then engage back to the starting position and repeat the movement. It's a simple way to work on core and back control.

Do you have a frozen shoulder and want to keep your range of motion?

These exercises focus on getting a little bit of movement through the shoulder while keeping the intensity and pain low. We want to work into a little discomfort without pushing through pain. The goal is to keep the shoulder moving as you work through the discomfort.

Have you been told to just stretch through the pain with frozen shoulder?

This used to be a common treatment, but the evidence doesn't really support it as a realistic or helpful option. Instead, take your shoulder right to the edge of your discomfort and then back out of it. Don't push through the pain—focus on gentle stretches and movements that improve your mobility.

Is your shoulder losing range of motion?

Frozen shoulder happens when the joint capsule becomes inflamed and an adhesion forms, limiting how much the shoulder can move. You may notice you can't get your arm as far overhead or rotate it out to the side like you normally could. The key is understanding what's actually limiting the motion rather than simply trying to force the shoulder into a stretch.

Is your shoulder becoming increasingly painful and difficult to move?

Frozen shoulder can cause significant pain and loss of motion, especially with external rotation and overhead movement. It happens when the joint capsule becomes inflamed and an adhesion forms, limiting how much the shoulder can move. If you're noticing these symptoms without a clear reason why, it may be worth getting it checked out.

We had a great time at Ninth Inning Baseball Kennesaw this weekend for their Baseball Combine!

We measured arm strength, grip strength, and upper and lower body mobility.

Ninth Inning also measured many other performance metrics that correlate with performance and injury risk.

It was a great event and we had a blast!
