Beth Sannella, Chair of the Galaxy of the Stars Committee and Gordon Hargrove, Executive Director of Friendly House are pleased to announce the honorees for this year’s Galaxy of the Stars Award Banquet, to be held on Thursday, December 8th at the Manor Restaurant in West Boylston. The banquet is Friendly House’s signature event to raise funds for its youth programs and to honor local community le
aders who exemplify Friendly House’s mission and reflect the generosity of Galaxy founder, Nick Manzello and Worcester sports legend, Kevin Lyons. Founded in 1920 “for the educational, social and family betterment of residents of the City of Worcester,” today it is the largest neighborhood-based multi-service community center in the area. Friendly House helps low-income children and families achieve self sufficiency by providing a full spectrum of services to meet critical basic needs with food, shelter and transitional housing, and with its after-school, summer and sports programs for children and youth. Friendly House’s signature expertise is as the “agency of last resort” for children and families when their needs cannot be met by other agencies. Financial proceeds from the Galaxy of the Stars supports the delivery and enhancement of the afterschool, summer and specialized programming for the children of Grafton Hill and the families served by the Friendly House shelter and housing program, and this year’s Holiday for Children activities in December. Friendly House has received new grants this year which have led to exciting innovative program partnerships with the Worcester Art Museum, the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts, Ritmos Academy, Worcester Public Schools, the Regional Science Resource Center of the U. Mass Medical School and WPI.
