Tumblebus Allstars

So, I totally forgot to post a follow-up on my last post until a parent who follows me asked if I was going to be at their child’s school today.

Well, I’m happy to report that I was able to get towed, get a replacement starter, and reinstall the new one all in one day (even though the new starter had a slightly different design that required some research to make sure I wasn’t going to immediately fry it).

It “only” took me about 6 hours, two of which were in the dark and only lit by my phone’s flashlight for the final connections.

Well, it’s out with the old and in with the new! And even though charging a starter is a fluid-less repair, the underside of a 30 year old diesel engine is absolutely filthy. It’s a good thing I wore those gloves!

So…I know the only time I ever post anything is when the bus is having issues/needs a repair, but to me, it’s really the only newsworthy stuff I have. 😂 There’s not much to say when everything goes flawlessly.

Anyway, I knew my starter was on its way out (at least, that’s still what I think but is…we’ll see once I replace it), and was hoping to make it to the end of this season, but apparently it didn’t have three more weeks left in it.

So here we are: Getting lifted by a big rig wrecker and on its way to where I park the bus so that I can replace the starter.

Hey…at least I made it to my school this morning!

PS - This is as good a time as any to let you all know that because of all the hassle of trying to run a business out of a single 30 year old vehicle while also trying to keep it running, I’m getting a new (to me) bus this summer! I’ll hold on to this one for the redundancy. Plus, it’ll give me the ability to do the repairs that take more than a couple of hours to do. So stay tuned for news on that front.

“Show Yourself” from Frozen 2 comes in over the speakers while the kids are playing.

Pre-K girl: “I love this song!”
Me: “Do you know what it’s from?
Her: “The Anna and Elsa movie!”
Me: “But which one?”
Her: “The one where they sing.”

During Tropics Week, we were talking about volcanoes and how they’re hot and you should stay away so you don’t get burned.

Out of nowhere, a preschooler, who wasn’t previously in the conversation, turns to me and says, “I like kitties!”

You know that old saying, “If I didn’t have bad luck, I wouldn’t have any luck at all”? Yeah…that’s me.

We’re limping to the end of the season (at my late morning Tuesday school, anyway): After having a brake caliper break on me two weeks ago, I got a chunk of asphalt stuck between two tires. It took me 25 minutes to dislodge it, and as a result, I missed my late morning school this morning. ✊🏼on 🪵, this is the last delay of the season. 😓

When you can’t find a mechanic who can fix your fuel leak within 24 hours; you take matters into your own hands.

Hopefully this lasts till the summer when I can fully replace these two lines.

4 birthday parties down, one to go! It actually wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be, plus, it’s starting to snow. Bring it on! Thanks for all well wishes yesterday!

It’s “Freestyle Week” on Tumblebus Allstars. We’re going for a minimalist look (I can’t wait to see the looks on the kids’ faces).

But don’t worry…it’ll still be fun! We’re going to start off with the zipline since the kids always want more turns than we usually have time for, then move on to parachute games, and if time permits, a snowball fight!
