Anyone racing in warm climates this winter?
The USAT High Performance heat-adaptation protocol is great… but let’s be honest, it’s intense and not always easy to pull off in real life.
I just came across this new study showing that women can get solid heat-adaptation benefits simply by overdressing at home for 10 days. It’s definitely not as proven or dialed-in as the full USAT HP protocol, but it is a super accessible, doable option for anyone looking to prep for a hot race.
“Females can achieve HA by overdressing at home for 10 days, and HAm provides further benefits.”

Three weeks of heat maintenance potentiates the benefits of heat acclimation in trained females
We investigated whether heat adaptation (HA) could be maintained in trained females following an initial acclimation period. The experimental group (EXP, n = 11) completed 10 sessions of HA over 2 weeks, followed by nine sessions of HA maintenance ...

My updated coaching bio is now live on the team site!
It’s been a while, so I gave it a refresh—this version focuses less on my own race results and more on what I’ve learned through coaching.
I started coaching back in 2004 with a Danskin Group Training Program in Chicago (the race was in Wisconsin). It was a big, couch-to-sprint triathlon group—full of energy, beginners, and heart.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of coaching athletes at every level—some brand new to the sport, others chasing big goals. No matter where they started, each athlete brought their own motivation, challenges, and growth—and I’ve loved being part of that process.
I’m now accepting a few new athletes. Whether you're just getting started or aiming high, I’d love to help you discover what you’re capable of.

Workout of the Week! We are excited to share another round, this time we are bringing you a run workout. Today's session is brought to you by BEST Coach and the workout is Strides! Strides are widely known to improve run mechanics, so this is a great session for both beginner athletes or seasoned athletes.
Strides help develop comfort at a higher speed with ample recovery time so they don't get fatigued. Strides also assist in mental preparation for faster workouts. Athletes can get the feeling of running fast and can build confidence in their abilities. My more advanced athletes use strides as an activity between harder and longer key workouts. They can get good volume without causing too much fatigue. Strides help keep form and cadence fresh for these athletes. By focusing on efficient running with proper mechanics, runners help reduce their chance of injury. They are really a great workout for everyone!
The Workout: Run Strides-> +/- 1 hour
Run moderately for 30-45 minutes in pace zones 1-3 (or RPE 3-6). Then, do 6 x 200 meters strides where you build from slow to fast within each 200. Take 200 meter jog recovery between sets. Cool down at least 5 minutes after the last one.

Off season swim technique work - IMLP prep
Today, we dedicated our training session to refining our kick and catch techniques. In triathlon freestyle, many athletes tend to avoid overexerting their leg muscles to prevent fatigue. However, I believe that maintaining a strong kick is crucial for achieving optimal balance in the water. My childhood background doesn't involve competitive swimming, so I prioritize perfecting my form during the off-season. Given that I spend a lot of time sitting and cycling, it can be challenging to engage my glutes and hips effectively.
Regarding our catch technique, we incorporated stroke correction drills into our practice. Each of these drills was repeated twice, and we followed each 25-meter drill with a 25-meter swim, with a 100-meter recovery interval between each set.
