Softball is a team sport.

By definition, the game teaches your child to be a part of the team, learn sportsmanship, uplift their teammates, let your teammates know they can depend on you, as you depend on them. Winning the game is just frosting on the cake, but absolutely not the most important part of the game.

Parents need to keep this in mind as well; coaches need to keep their parents in check as well as themselves. When your sportsmanship and behavior is not on par, you can jeopardize your daughter’s position on the current team and future teams, including college aspirations.

If a college recruiter saw your behavior as unsportsmanlike and non-exemplary, you could have the best player in the country and she could very well be overlooked because college coaches will not put up with you, the unsportsmanlike parent.

Keep in mind the age-old philosophy: “treat others as you wish to be treated”
