Kyrgyzstan hosts VI World Nomad Games in Cholpon-Ata

Kyrgyzstan is hosting the VI World Nomad Games, bringing together athletes from around the world for an international celebration of traditional sports, culture and nomadic heritage.

The event is being held at a hippodrome in Cholpon-Ata, in the scenic Issyk-Kul region, where competitors take part in a range of traditional and ethnic sporting disciplines.

The World Nomad Games have grown into a major international platform showcasing the sporting traditions, cultural heritage and shared history of nomadic peoples.

Dasun Shanaka produced a breathtaking display of power, smashing a century from just 39 balls as St Kitts and Nevis Patriots stormed to a massive 137-run victory over St Lucia Kings in the CPL 2026 in Basseterre.

The Sri Lankan all-rounder’s explosive hundred powered the Patriots to a commanding total before their bowlers completed the rout, sealing the biggest win in CPL history by runs.

Shanaka’s 39-ball century also became the fastest hundred in CPL history, underlining one of the most destructive individual performances of the tournament.

Sri Lanka have suffered a double blow ahead of their T20I series against England, with captain Kusal Mendis and fast bowler Binura Fernando ruled out due to injuries sustained during the 2026 Lanka Premier League.

Both players were named in Sri Lanka’s 16-member squad just a day earlier, but SLC confirmed they are still undergoing rehabilitation.

Mendis has been sidelined since July 19 with a right hamstring injury, while Fernando has been out since August 5 with a back injury.

With Mendis unavailable, vice-captain Charith Asalanka will lead Sri Lanka in the T20I series. Mendis has not yet been ruled out of the subsequent ODIs, but Asalanka could also take charge there if required.

Top-order batter Pavan Rathnayake has replaced Mendis in the T20I squad, while fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka comes in for Fernando.

The Kolkata-based club learned their fate on Thursday (September 3), when the group stage draw for the tournament's third edition took place at AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, setting up clashes with South Korea's Hwacheon KSPO WFC, Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City WFC and North Korea's April 25 Sports Club in Group B.

In a groundbreaking moment for Indian football, Kolkata will host the Group B fixtures from November 1 to 7.

East Bengal earned their spot in the main draw for a second successive season after dominating preliminary-stage Group A, finishing ahead of Malaysia's Sabah FC, Bangladesh's Rajshahi Stars and Guam's Rovers FC.

Meanwhile, in Group A, Myanmar’s Ayeyawady FC will face North Korea’s Naegohyang FC, Japan’s INAC Kobe Leonessa and Iran’s Bam Khatoon FC.

Group C will see match ups between Uzbekistan’s PFC Nasaf, Philippines’s Kaya FC-Iloilo, China’s Beijing Jingtan FC and Australia’s Melbourne City FC.

The upcoming edition will see the 12 teams compete across three groups of four, each in a centralised league format. The top two teams from each group and the two best-ranked third-placed teams will advance to the knockout stage.
