A ride update from Lori Swan:

QUICK UPDATE FOR THE FRIDAY TRAIL RIDE.

Just a heads up about Friday's ride. We're rolling out a bit later this time-starting from Niles at noon.
Since Cadence will be closed by the time we get back, I'm planning to swing by there at 11:00 before the ride.
See you there!

Below is a link to a video, starring two OSW club members and produced by the Thrive Mahoning Valley organization.

I would add that while the video spends time discussing the Tuesday night ride, which is one that focuses on improving speed and endurance, the club offers a range of rides for cyclists of all goals and abilities. A few were mentioned and some were not.

We offer coffee rides that go at a leisurely pace (10 mph), gentler terrain, and cover shorter mileage (10-15 miles). You don't have to like coffee to come along on one of these rides. You also don't have to be a member to ride but we encourage you to join. The dues are very reasonable. You will get a newsletter and occasional email notices of club events that come up.

These alternative rides are for the purpose of bringing people together and allowing for time to talk, make connections, and to get comfortable with the bike. Bike maintenance, for optimal riding comfort and performance, is very important. Many of our club members are well-versed in the nuances of bicycle maintenance.

As someone who has been riding for a long time (50+ years) and with all kinds of cycling groups over the years, I have found the OSW to be a very friendly and welcoming club.

Thanks to Ed Christian, Sarah Lowry, and Thrive Mahoning Valley for making this video.

NEOC Help Wanted

We have had a good response for volunteers, but we could still use a morning person at the Southington rest stop, and at the Moose Lodge for lunch preparation. Because of an event held the previous night at the Lodge, we will have to do all our set at 6:00 AM on the day of the event. It would be helpful to have a few more people helping out with that. Please contact Sarah directly and let her know if you can help at her email address: [email protected]

The ride has been advertised via the distribution of posters to bike stores, news media, and social media. When you see the Facebook event for NEOC, feel free to share it with anybody that you think might be interested in attending.

NEOC Update

Greetings OSW members. It’s nearly September, which means it is NEOC time! A lot of time and planning go into conducting this ride, so thanks to Sarah Lowry and all the volunteers that make it happen.

If you’ve never been to this ride, you will be amazed at all the amazing baskets that are available to win when you arrive. With that thought, I’d like to invite all the OSW Club members that have never attended this ride to come see what it’s all about. We have available a 10 mile and a 25-mile route for those who don’t wish to do the longer distances. This ride provides beautiful routes, great scenery, excellent road markings, camaraderie and socialization that you will be sure to enjoy!

NEOC is known for its selection and abundance of cookies, so please help out in that regard. I will be going up early the morning of the event, so if you would like to drop off your cookies to my house in Austintown on the days before the ride, that would be great. Call or text me to make drop-off arrangements at 330.766.6992.

Pedal on and enjoy this great weather!

Member Bike for Sale

Long time OSW member Lorey Caldwell wishes to offer for sale an E-Bike bike that belongs to his wife. Here are the details:

She has a 2018 Townie Electra (with fat tires and the big cruiser seat) that we bought from Augie at Thumm’s. Not a road bike, but she rode it in Mill Creek Park, and on several rails-to-trails. I thought someone in the Club might be interested in it. I paid about $2,800 for it. I would sell for $750 and throw in the 2-bike e-bike rated carrier for a 2” rear hitch (paid $440 for the carrier). I still have all the paperwork from Thumm’s.
